Action movies can be so cliche at times, but I give it to George Miller for ensuring Mad Max: Fury Road avoids becoming your typically flat, uninspiring cess pit of bland explosions for the sake of explosions.
From the very off I felt blown away by the action on screen - this film was pure, unadulterated heavy metal portrayed visually in the form of cinema. It was intensifying and every sequence felt striking as hell with a real punch behind every hit. I love the lack of dialogue in comparison to the violence we get to see, it really allows you to just wallow in the chaos ensuing for its 2 hour run time. The guy on the front of the truck hitting the sickest guitar riffs is a personal highlight of this for me and the soundtrack itself is absolutely fucking sick. I felt in my element listening to it.
If I have to explain my downfalls, I personally don’t really care for the plot itself in the world of Mad Max, and despite the fact there is also many moments that this looks visually fantastic, I have to be honest with myself and say for my liking there are a few too many instances where it just look’s nowhere near as good. Thankfully, like I already stressed, the action was practically perfect and as brutal as it should be without trying too hard.
Of course, something of this scale is meant to be seen on the big screen and unfortunately I am not fortunate enough to do so, perhaps this is why my experience is not on the level as some of you. However, I am looking forward to having the chance to see Furiosa soon (maybe as early as tomorrow) and I’m sure my experience will be elevated by watching it in the correct setting.
