Grant Paulsen’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Albert… when I came to you with those calculations, we thought we might start a chain reaction that would destroy the entire world… I believe we did.”
Nothing short of astounding. Spectacular, I am just left speechless. Easily one of if not my favorite biopic ever made. This is most certainly Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus as a director. It’s a filmmaking achievement on every level. Filled with some of the best acting I’ve ever seen in a Christopher Nolan film.
Cillian Murphy is an absolute powerhouse, better than he has ever been. He completely carried this role on his shoulders. He’s in pretty much every single scene in this three-hour long mammoth of an epic, which could not have made this an easy role for him to pull off. He absolutely is worthy of a Best Actor nomination at the Academy Awards this year.
Robert Downey Jr. is also worthy of a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Academy Awards this year. To come off of playing Iron Man for over a decade to show us that he is an incredible actor who is fully capable of delivering a top tier performance. He hasn’t been this good since Zodiac (2007).
Those two are the ones who stole the show for me, but the entire cast was just incredible. I need some time, as well as a second viewing to fully process this film. Especially with that ending because jesus. Fucking hell. Talk about a sledgehammer. This is one of if not Nolan’s best work and I cannot wait to see it again.
“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
