This has pretty much everything. Great and original concept, incredible actions sequences (probably some of the best ever), a fitting setting and aura throughout the entire movie, a pretty interesting style and look, it feels so big hollywood production yet so bleak, there are at least 50 shots that would make great posters. I used to underrate it because I thought it was overrated. What a fool.
I'm waiting to see if it becomes one of my favorites to give that last half star.

Synecdoche, New York 2008
Charlie Kaufman's brain needs to be studied. I wonder why he's never written novels. He'd be the next Pynchon.
Philip Seymour Hoffman deserved an oscar for pretty much every movie he starred in. This might be his best perfomance.
Scarily depressing, beautiful and pretty damn weird. Masterpiece. -
The Holdovers 2023
a nice, sweet Christmas film that is really deep down a father-son story. The way everybody went nuts over it online I was expecting for some crazy shit to happen, some monster to show up at the campus, serial killer Santa Claus or something like that. I'm glad it was just a nice film with normal people and a normal story. More movies like this!!!

The Postman 1994
Massimo Troisi (Mario) literally gave his life to this film. He needed a heart transplant but he said "no way I'm making this film with somebody else's heart"
He died as the film wrapped shooting. This was his gift to cinema. -
A Complete Unknown 2024
I was surprised. Timothy's star power is real. I didn't give a damn about Bob Dylan until 2 hours ago (more like 4, had to get home).
It works because it's a vibe. If you catch on the vibe Timothy just carries it on his shoulder and it's a pleasure to watch. In fact I wasn't into it at all for the first 20 minutes. Give movies their time, always.
I could really rewatch it and enjoy it so much… -
Antichrist 2009
Antichrist is an experience. It was definitely a strange and shocking one for me.
I don't know what to make of it as a movie.
As a piece of art, an extreme representation of post traumatic stress disorder and possibly a metaphor for an abusive relationship, it's interesting and ridicolously on point. Maybe on a metaphorical sense. At least I hope.
I sure could understand what Willem Defoe had in his eyes when his crazy wife was trying to stab… -
The Substance 2024
Demi Moore's terrifying metamorphosis into the beautiful Margaret Qualley, aging into the old lady from The Shining, right before she ultimately turns into John Merrick, The Elephant Man.
If she isn't at least nominated for all the awards out there, I better see the greatest perfomances of all time being picked over hers.So much Style for a movie called The Substance.
Coralie Forgaet and Benjamin Kračun dare shoot on digital and make it look absolutely gorgeous. Never off putting… -
The Master 2012
always the greatest delight to see this masterpiece. One of the very best movies of all time, no exaggerations required. And definitely one of the very very very best looking movies of all time.
PTA's movies always have great cinematography, but what happened here? Did he go to heaven to shoot this one? I mean have you seen the light in just about any goddamn shot? I will fight anyone who tells me this couldn't be compared to Barry Lyndon.… -
Crimes and Misdemeanors 1989
look, this is a near perfect movie from a narrative and structural standpoint.
It's a perfect love relationship film. Real love must exist and we have examples of it in real life, but it ultimately still feels like a fairy tale. Love is tarnished by infedility, jealousy that'll get you murdered and jelaousy that'll kill you inside for watching your wannabe lover go with the dumbest guy in the world. It's a movie in itself when you realize the main… -
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me 1992
I said in my previous reviews that you must be familiar with the show to understand why this is a cult classic, so this time I cheated a little; I rewatched S2 finale, then Fire Walk with Me and the Missing Pieces right after, for a complete experience.
If you think of it as a 2h Twin Peaks episode, it may be the best twin peaks episode (prior to The Return) and it's incredible. Everything is there, plus brand new… -
Inland Empire 2006
as David Lynch's biggest fanboy, there was simply no way anybody could've convinced me this was good before yesterday.
People who dislike him always say he just makes shit up for the sake of being weird, and I would always defend all of his movies minus Inland Empire; when I saw it for the first time I thought yeah this is it, this is the movie were David Lynch got lost into his own weird mind and just got on… -
Rosemary's Baby 1968
I don't remember ever feeling worse for a character and between this and Eraserhead I'm scared my first son will be born to look like a xenomorph from Alien. Let's hope it's a girl, I guess.
