Bodies Bodies Bodies on hallucinogens with existential crisis undertones. “Do you have any idea the amount of charities and non-profit organizations I work with?”

I Saw the TV Glow 2024
Multi-layered, ethereal, and completely authentic. Not many films get the nostalgia element right when portraying childhood but this one is so damn spot on and caring in the way it takes you back to that certain time. And then it switches gears and becomes a mind-bogglingly self-aware sci-fi horror flick. What a beautiful ride.

Poor Things 2023
Subversive, hilarious, emotional, and entirely insane. Lanthimos never disappoints and this is legit Emma Stone’s best performance to date. Kinda torn between her and Lily Gladstone for Best Actress Oscar now.

The Matrix Resurrections 2021
Tell us you were forced to reboot your franchise because you didn’t want anyone else getting their grubby hands on your art without actually telling us. So meta, so queer, so goofy, so much love. I’d take a million existential money grab nostalgia Matrix sequels/reboots as long as someone with the last name Wachowski is behind them all.

Crimes of the Future 2022
Feels classic and brand new at the same time. Cronenberg will be transgressive and metal af until the day he dies and I love him for it.

The Bad Batch 2016
Enjoyed this A LOT more than I thought I would, which was probably helped by the fact that Jason Momoa has never looked hotter in a movie but whatever. The film ended up being a mixture of crazy and introspective, like an early Gus Van Sant movie met up with an early Wes Craven movie and they took shrooms together. Did I mention how hot Jason Momoa is in it? Not even kidding.

The Tomorrow War 2021
Just the emotional Earth invaded by aliens but goddamn family is important kind of semi-mindless entertainment I was looking for on this day. A+ on the alien design. Creepy as hell.

Synchronic 2019
I still have no fucking idea what transpired in this movie other than do not buy synthetic drugs at gas stations but I still dug A LOT of it. Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson are some of my fave newer directors and their hot asses (thank you The Endless) bring the sci-fi crazy yet again with Synchronic. This gets major points for being set in my absolute favorite city, New Orleans. There is no other city. Nothing compares. I haven't been since COVID and I miss that shit so much. Coming for you, NOLA.

Black Mirror: San Junipero 2016
Is it a coincidence that the absolute best Black Mirror entry is also the most hopeful? No. The pureness that radiates out of every frame of this godsend is enough to melt even the most frozen heart and proves that deep down, no matter how hard we act, we're all just a bunch of fucking softies. The use of Belinda Carlisle's '80s banger "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" is the perfect background music for this love story that defies time and space.
