• MadS

    MadS

    ★★★½

Movies that try one continuous shot for the whole runtime usually turn out lacking but this is actually wild and pretty fun. It gets wacky, horrific and over the top, which are a few of my favorite things so was def pleasantly surprised. Plus, inventive takes on zombies are for sure appreciated.

  • Martyrs

    Martyrs

    ★★★★

Transgressive fucking extreme French horror movies always. Martyrs does everything in the best most grotesque way possible from start to finish. Plus I always laugh when baby Xavier Dolan pops up at the beginning and does his best representation of a straight guy.

  • Anatomy of a Fall

    Anatomy of a Fall

    ★★★★½

The way this movie makes you come to your own conclusions regarding what happened after all the "evidence" is presented. So clever. Also, I took French for like two years in high school and I still would be requesting a translator even if I lived in France with my French husband because I don't know a lot of French cuss words and profanity is my love language. Sandra Hüller is everything btw. Her face tracks all the emotions. That scene where they play the recording is so good.

  • Sick of Myself

    Sick of Myself

    ★★★★½

Probably what would happen if John Waters and Michael Haneke had a baby and it's so good. Hilarious and utterly despicable.

  • Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2

Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2

    ★★★½

This movie is so stupid but legit hits all my trigger points when it comes to reaching cult classic status per my gay ass: 1. Cute non-English speaking guy, 2. Fucking weird, 3. A total 180 from the first movie, 4. Fucking weird, 5. Body horror for daaays, 6. Fucking weird. Poland’s tourism council needs to feature this on their website bc yes. It’s nonsensical but so much fun.

  • Squid Game

    Squid Game

    ★★★★½

This had me right up until those last couple of minutes. It kind of feels like they're setting it up for more story when this should definitely just be a stand-alone limited series. And since Squid Game ended up being wildly popular, I'm guessing there will most likely be a second entry.

  • Veneno

    Veneno

    ★★★★½

Every second of this miniseries is just bursting with love and vibrancy and isn't of the moment but is the moment. I wasn't aware of La Veneno while she was alive but seeing this and experiencing mere bits of the brave and fearless life she led definitely affected me in more ways than I could have imagined. New hero. And how is it that all of this feels like something straight out of an Almodovar film? It has the same…

  • #Alive

    #Alive

    ★★★½

I feel like we’re all living this movie right now but with crazy people instead of zombies.

  • La Ceremonie

    La Ceremonie

    ★★★★

This was on some random list I stumbled across of the most disturbing films that you can only watch once. I should've known the list was bullshit because A Serbian Film wasn't on it and that's the only movie so disturbing I haven't watched it a second time. La Ceremonie does have a pretty realistic and disturbing ending but the majority of it isn't anywhere near disturbing enough to warrant a place on a list like that. Anyway, that's beside…

  • Impetigore

    Impetigore

    ★★★★

Damn, after Satan’s Slaves and now Impetigore, Joko Anwar is quickly becoming a fave director. His work is dark, full of mystery, and kind of enchanting. Here, he’s able to weave a story that’s weird and special, filling it with folklore galore. It definitely features some of the most intense throat-slitting I’ve ever seen and tons of family drama. Whew. Tara Basro is also great. She’s the Indonesian scream queen that we both need and deserve.

  • Dial Code Santa Claus

    Dial Code Santa Claus

    ★★★

French people are crazy and I love them for it.

  • Parasite

    Parasite

    ★★★★

An extremely clever and diabolical riff on social classes and how extremely fucked the whole system is. Bong Joon-ho is angry about it and so am I. God, I love a director with a vision. Yes, ma’am.
