  It’s disheartening to give a film like She Said a negative rating, even if it’s honest - this is something that affected real women, and resulted from a corrupt and abusive system in Hollywood (and everywhere else) that still exists today. I’m glad it was made. But there was still a conscious decision not to make a documentary here, and in a genre that champions the likes of Spotlight it is hard not to feel underwhelmed by She Said’s weak screenplay. It is most evocative when victims are telling their stories directly, being appropriately blunt about the atrocity of what Weinstein did (you can’t take your eyes off Samantha Morton). Otherwise, it fails to tie all of its ideas together…

  Produced by Brad Pitt? Lol. Ok. That’s a rather unfortunate and ironic blemish this otherwise excellent movie has to deal with isn’t it?

  Excellent story, told exceptionally well with superb performances by its stellar female cast. Zoe Kazan is very strong in leading the film, and shoutout must also go to Samantha Morton, Jennifer Ehle and to Ashley Judd for her bravery, very admirable of her.

  But yeah, produced by Brad Pitt. Hmmmm.

  She Said is not only one of the best films of the year, but also an essential example of how important it is that women tell women’s stories, and a riveting reminder that it was two working moms who took down Harvey Weinstein and changed the world.

  Well-intentioned but leaves a lot to be desired both in the writing and behind the camera. An undeniably important story to be told but there has to be a better way to express it cinematically than this. Also runs into the issue of celebrities obviously being an integral part of the story, yet the impersonations/cameos ending up more weirdly goofy and distracting than anything else. Samantha Morton deserves a shout out though, she might have the best scene and performance in the whole film.

  there's nothing technically wrong here but it just kind of shouldn't be a movie. the film really struggles with how uninteresting it is to watch reporters do normal, diligent work while meeting little dramatic resistance beyond "i don't want to talk..............okay never mind i will." credit to the film for not trying too hard to spice things up i guess, but there's little being added here to the raw reported material. you might as well just listen to the audiobook while looking at pictures of diners and open-plan offices. the centerpiece monologues have some nice moments though, and i appreciate the idea of playing them over spare shots of empty rooms, focusing in on little details and nuances about those spaces. it's a solid idea that's only a little let down by the visual sparseness of the surrounding film. the only real sour note is carey mulligan and her awesomely bad american accent. what happened to her.

  I appreciate how straightforward this film is. It’s not sensationalized, it’s honest and faithful. And the subjects deserve that. Though because of this approach it’s also a little dry and light on character development for our two leads. Jennifer Ehle MVP!

  On the surface She Said would seem to be about the New York Times journalists that broke the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal, but this really is not a journalism drama akin to Spotlight or All the President’s Men. Though the film is experienced through the lens of journalists Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) and Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan), Director Maria Schrader chooses to focus the attention on the courageous women who dared to tell their stories—Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan, Zelda Perkins, Rowena Chiu, Laura Madden. Though this doesn’t make for a tension filled edge of your seat drama the way the aforementioned films are, it does well to honor some of these women at the center of one of the most important stories of our generation.   Ich habe den Artikel damals am Tag des Erscheinens gelesen und weiß noch, wie fassungslos mich der Text zurück ließ. Nicht weil ich sonderlich überrascht gewesen wäre - Weinstein galt bereits auf dem Zenit seiner Macht als maximal unangenehm, die Geschichte seiner Übergriffe in das Filmgeschehen stapelten sich bereits Mitte der Neunziger bis unter den Rand des Hollywood Signs. Schockiert hatte mich vor allem, dass der Mann jahrzehntelang walten und wüten konnte, dass seine Opfer zahllos gewesen sein müssen, aber nie etwas nach außen dringen konnte. „She Said“ gibt der Tragödie noch einmal eine weitere Dimension, weil klar wird, dass die Recherche des New York Times Artikels, der ein ganzes Movement geprägt hat, ein einziger Kraftakt gewesen ist.

  It's bizarre to me that this movie wasn't done better, and the biggest problem here is the writing. It's an important story that should be told, but somehow it barely manages to present any characters as actual people beyond their function within the plot while also failing to properly address how many people in Hollywood enabled these things (either actively or passively) for years. It's OK as a journalism movie and it's OK at representing a true story on screen. But Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan could probably read a shopping list and make it engaging, so it still works.
