From June 29 to August 27, Freiluftkino Frankfurt enters its tenth season. As in the past three years, the inner courtyard of the old police headquarters could be won for the Frankfurt summer event - one of the most exciting off-locations of the city! Current cinema highlights are shown there week after week from Thursday to Sunday.
Actually, the demolition excavators should already be rolling in. But because they are still a little bit waiting, it is to the anniversary: Extra cineastic round between old walls! The open-air cinema Frankfurt invites you to the mystically illuminated courtyard of the old police headquarters for one more and last time this summer! With delicious galettes and refreshing long drinks, the visit there every evening will provide unforgettable cinema moments. So if you want to experience once again the morbid charm of this so special place, you will be spoiled for choice with a top-class curated film program.
For example, "Triangle of Sadness" by Ruben Östlund can be seen: The satirical tragicomedy premiered last year at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the Palme d'Or. And quite rightly so: A film classic of tomorrow!
With "Nope" by Joran Peele ("Get Out") - one of those films for which the screen cannot be big enough. The most beautiful of all conceivable cinema ceilings (the free night sky) will do its part. Who knows: maybe the mysterious flying object of this science fiction spectacle will also show up in Frankfurt and captivate the audience.
Fatih Akin's gangster drama "Rheingold" about the life of German rapper and music producer Xatar is also part of the cinema program. "Rheingold" shows Akin at the peak of his creative powers.
The open-air cinema opens on June 29 with the much-acclaimed coming-of-age film "Sun and Concrete." David Wnendt's film adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by stand-up comedian Felix Lobrecht is an impressively provocative milieu study that has already attracted more than one million viewers to the cinema.
As in previous years, the program will again feature a number of cinema classics in addition to current world cinema. For example, "The Big Lebowski" finds its way back to the big screen as part of its 25th anniversary. The cult comedy by the Oscar-winning Coen brothers has lost none of its clever absurdity to this day. A must for all fans of the well-groomed bathrobe outfit.
