This is a defining movie for both its lead and it’s director.
   Cillian Murphy completely embodies Oppenheimer with a spry frailty that very few could truly achieve with looks alone (that’s not to say the makeup department didn’t also do amazing work here) combined with the sheer torment of his work fighting with a god complex buried just below the surface. Surrounding him is an all-star supporting cast giving some of their best performances as well, with Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and RDJ all having moments of greatness in this epic packed with so many stars that it could be easy to get overlooked. 

Nolan was THE choice for this. His love for cinema shines through every frame of the glorious 70 mm film that I had the pleasure of viewing in Indy, and his insistence on practical over CG as much as possible paid off, as even the blandest of settings looks better than 75% of most movies. This movie will age spectacularly. But this is also very much a Nolan story. He finds a way of bringing out the humanity in the most explosive of stories, for better or for worse in some of his movies, but Oppenheimer is the perfect character study for his style of story telling. 

I have no troubles calling this the best movie of the year, and the greatest biopic I have ever seen. 

Barbenheimer is done, and thus closes a chapter of the most exciting week of cinema in years. Very glad both lived up to the hype. I can finally rest.
