What I find most impressive about Oppenheimer is how every sense of paranoia, fear, regret and guilt that the film conveys is embedded in the devastating gaze of the excellent Cillian Murphy. Rarely have I seen an actor carry so much emotion that a film conveys, it is an exquisite work by an actor who deserved this highlight a long time ago. Perhaps the scene that most highlights this is the scene where he is going to argue with that audience, all the feelings I mentioned are in that scene. It's a scene that you want to pass as quickly as possible, it's a scene that almost becomes torture. You can see that there, Oppenheimer looked at those people and kind of realized that some people will never understand that what they created will leave humanity in constant war forever. The plan was to end WWII, but that ended up just creating a war that will go on forever. And it's not a war of guns or battlegrounds, it's a war of fear and paranoia. Where anyone is an enemy until proven otherwise. It's a constant fear that at any moment a madman could become president of an important nation and decide to drop a bomb on a country considered an enemy. The ending of that movie could be a vision of the very distant future, or it could just be the fear we all feel.
