An instant animated family classic that's better than anything Pixar has released over the past decade (and better looking, too—love what Dreamworks has been doing with its digital art since Sony’s Spiderverse cracked the animation game wide open). Warm, funny, prescient, and genuinely moving. It's been a while since a children's film has had the guts to tackle heavier subjects like this head-on. The stellar voice cast was a huge bonus. The only bummer for me were the chintzy, barf-bag pop songs, but it seems Dreamworks can’t resist that urge. I hope they adapt the other two books in the series, I've heard they're just as strong (if not better) than the first.
