As well as a lot of actors being snubbed nothing could make me more mad at how they skullfucked the reputation of animation once again
Having Spiderverse or Boy in the Heron left out of best visual effects, editing, screenplay and both music categories is downright insulting to the craft of animation. At least the Golden Globes, as mid of a show that is, actually gave Spiderverse more than one chance. It was bad enough that the first one, a landmark title for the industry only got its designated category, but the fact that the second one went above and beyond with it’s established style made them have the perfect opportunity to redeem themselves but like the old depressing fucks they are they just didn’t! Also the fact they nominated INDIANA JONES DIAL OF DESTINYS’S RECYCLEABLE SNOOZEFEST OF A SOUNDTRACK OVER SPIDERVERSES MEMORABLE PHENOMENAL SOUNDTRACK IS ABSOLUTELY DEPLORABLE! I remember when the Oscars gave a damn about animation but ever since last year with them only giving Guillermo Del Toro, an ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR WHOS ONE MULITPLE AWARDS sadly only got one cause it was animated for shame. Thankfully bro clapped back with a wake up call speech for them and I thought they had the balls to listen but no they ignored it like the old ignorant fucks they are
Both Boy and the Heron and especially Across the Spiderverse were the best films I saw in 2023 (I have yet to see Godzilla Minus One but heard nothing but praise from it) and they were the most nuance and mature films I saw of that year that pushed the limits of what not only and animated film could be but what a beautifully crafted film could be. I might not watch this dumpster fire in protest I am so pissed off there’s gotta be some way for big companies to realize the power of animation right?
