I recently finished the book. It easily earned a spot in my top 3 favorite books. I was very excited for the movie given that it's loved by both critics and viewers. My expectations were very high and they were not met unfortunately. Briefly.
Pros:
• brilliant direction
• stunning cinematography and costumes
• mostly good casting choices
• well acted
Cons:
• there was so much important stuff cut from the source material. Too many to even count.
• someone who hasn't read the book would feel lost and have a hard time following the plot
•tsar alexander was barely shown (for obvious reasons unfortunately)
• many important christian elements were omitted (for obvious reasons unfortunately)
• most characters were not fleshed out like in the novel
• it sacrificed much of it's philosophical depth and pierre's search for meaning in his life

My favorite movie of all time. In my view, the best superhero film ever made, no doubt. Sam Raimi managed to create a movie that is a grand blockbuster while also being a very personal and intimate piece of art about responsibility, self-sacrifice, choice and love. This movie has something that many superhero films lack: heart. It fundamentally understands what spider-man is all about. The man underneath the mask. I could really go on all day long about what makes this picture so captivating. The sincerity, the acting, the action, the poignant score by Danny Elfman... Spider-man 2 will always have a very special place in my heart and I hope I will be able to keep revisiting it for a very long time.

I will forever be grateful to all the people who made this movie happen. Words can not describe what this whole trilogy means to me. You can feel the love it was made with. After witnessing this film as a 4 year old I begged my mom to get me a spider-man costume for carnival. At 25 years of age I truly appreciate Peter Parker even more and while fictional, he keeps giving me hope and inspiring me to be a better version of myself.
