we need a malena 2 where she gets revenge and beats the shit out of everybody
-
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
That scene where they overwhelm her by trying to light her cigarette made me hate men, and the scene where they harm her and cut her hair made me hate women, basically i hate everyone apart from Monica Bellucci.
-
The most unrealistic part of the film is that in this Italian town there is only one beautiful person. And everyone else is so ugly that they have nothing to do other than stalk her and gossip about her.
-
this film made me hate both men and women... I only love Monica Belucci.

"SHE WAS TOO YOUNG TO BE A WIDOW, AND TOO BEAUTIFUL TO BE ALONE. EVERY MAN WANTED TO HAVE HER. ONE BOY RISKED EVERYTHING TO PROTECT HER"
That's the synopsis / tagline of the film Malena and it's all true that is until the last line. "One boy risked everything to protect her" that is total bullshit, he basically just watches as terrible things happen to poor Malena. Oh and he masturbates constantly about it too. That's basically the film... so enjoy!
-
The main emotion (and probably the only one as well) this film made me feel is pure disgust. For a film about misogyny, it is ridiculously misogynistic itself. I get that this is Renato's story and not Malèna's, but she still feels like a bidimensional character, like a walking pair of breasts, a beautiful shell empty on the inside. The film appears to me to want to be a critique of the male gaze, but it very clearly adopts the male gaze itself. I hate that the film romanticises Renato's """relationship""" (or lack thereof) with Malèna, when all it is is stalking, obsession, and lust. I hate that the film depicts all the other women as jealous and nasty towards…
-
me: this a great exploration of the harms of mysoginy and male gaze that adresses honestly how a young boy growing up in this environment could ultimately make him no better than the rest of the people but the film is smart enough to know it needed hope to make it work in the end
also me: does this kid ever stop jerking off?
-
we get it teenage boys are horny, men are gross and monica bellucci is hot we did not need a 2 hour long film to tell us that

-
the straight version of call me by your name
-
men 🥺 please stop making movies 🥺
-
The worst thing about this rose-tinted, unapologetic glorification of a little pervert is that all the abuses suffered by Malena in the end become somehow justifiable, and herself understood and redeemed, simply because she has once served as the object of the boy’s excessive libido. This is exploitation of beauty itself at its worst.
