Litchi chinensis (binomen a Petro Sonnerat anno 1782 statutum) est arbor familiae Sapindacearum, ex Asia orientali oriunda, cuius fructus dulces et sucosi comeduntur. Qui fructus semel lechia, semel lici Latinitate communi appellatus est:
- Ay assi mesmo una suerte de ciruelas, que llaman lechias, que de mas de ser sabrosissimas, nunca dan hastio, nì hazen daño, aunque coman de ellas gran cantidad ("Pruna item (lechias Chinenses vocant) non esu tantum iucundissima, sed et, quantumlibet comedas, neque noxam neque nauseam parientia").[1][2]
