La Griglia

Since La Griglia 2.0 opened last year at the newly minted Harlow District, the restaurant has hardly had a chance for the seats to cool. The longtime Landry’s favorite is thriving at its new address, which boasts a dimly-lit dining room and lounge, plus a moody covered patio with its own dedicated bar. While plenty is new, it still has much of the charm from the original locale, like La Griglia’s signature pizza and pasta dishes and its beloved complimentary bread service.

Étoile

Tucked away in Uptown Park, this bistro, helmed by chef Philippe Verpiand, is just as romantic as one might think. Vintage chandeliers bedeck the dining room, and the rustic art and French décor make it feel like a Parisian getaway in the heart of the city. Begin with escargot and country pate before enjoying soul-warming entrees like sole amandine or coq au vin.

Backstreet Cafe

While H-Town Restaurant Group has grown to include such lauded restaurants as Hugo’s, Caracol, Xochi, and Urbe, its first concept, Backstreet Cafe, remains the most romantic of the bunch. Housed in a 1930s-era home with a picturesque interior courtyard, a dining experience here offers warmth and comfort unlike any other restaurant in the city. Start with roasted oysters and then choose from entrees like Gulf shrimp and grits, braised short rib, or lobster linguine.

il Bracco

Suited for a romantic lunch or dinner out, il Bracco pairs a fresh menu of Italian fare with a sophisticated dining space. Bulky banquettes in the dining room are just as great for people-watching as they are for cozying up to your date, and dishes like the housemade cacio e pepe, NY strip steak, and eggplant parm are hearty enough to share.

The space that once housed French restaurant La Table in Uptown has been transformed into Tavola, an attractive Italian eatery from Berg Hospitality in collaboration with the Bastion Collection, which also translates to “table.” With its muted blush tones and playful artwork, the dining room is easy on the eyes. Plus, a brasserie-style bar and a cozy enclosed patio allow for plenty of seating options. Start with something bubbly like the Amalfi Coast from the spritz bar, and try its pasta like the housemade pappardelle with Texas wild boar ragu before capping the evening off with a sampling of spirits from the amaro cart.

With a number of uniquely styled dining rooms, Musaafer is a feast for the eyes, and its grandiose sheesh mahal is one of the most romantic spaces to dine in the city. Elevated from the main dining room, the Palace of Mirrors was constructed with more than 220,000 mirrors and is a sight to see when the sun goes down and ornate chandeliers illuminate the room. Musaafer’s menu, which takes a modern approach to India’s regional cuisines, is an equally impressive match.

Nobie's

Located inside an old Montrose bungalow, Nobie’s is proof that good things come in small packages. The husband-and-wife-operated restaurant provides a low-key and intimate destination for date night and vibey tunes from the record player supply fitting background music for a romantic evening. Dishes like Nonno’s Pasta and the fried chicken dinner have a cult following, as do the pies, which change regularly.

BCN Taste & Tradition

Unlike MAD, its glitzy River Oaks District counterpart BCN Taste & Tradition is an elegant hideaway that serves as a quintessential date night spot. The restaurant’s name is a nod to Barcelona’s airport code, and its menu puts equal focus on traditional and modern Spanish cuisine. A small wraparound bar is the perfect spot to wet your palate with a gin and tonic before digging into tapas like anchovies, crispy baby artichokes, and Spanish Iberico ham.

Tony’s timeless dining room has served as the backdrop for countless proposals and wedding showers, and for good reason. The restaurant showcases Italian flavors and ingredients in an exemplary way, making every dining experience feel unique and special. Try the fettuccine with vodka sauce and jumbo lump crab or the dry-aged Crescent Island duck. For pure decadence, elevate your experience with the addition of Alba black truffles.

At this sophisticated French restaurant located inside the MFAH, the menu is vegetable-rich and inspired by the seasonality of ingredients. Plates like heirloom roasted beets and risotto with winter squash are vibrant with colors that leap off the plate. Dine a la carte, or splurge on the five-course seasonal expression. With its mint green banquettes and a wall-size tapestry of an abstract forest, the interior of the restaurant is a stunner, but opting for a table outside with views of the Sculpture Garden is just as romantic.

Aya Sushi

With its well-appointed dining room and an omakase experience touting 19 courses, Aya Sushi brings style and substance to the Bellaire Triangle. Helmed by Uchi veteran, Yoshi Katsuyama, the restaurant’s inventive offerings include A5 shabu shabu and sushi grade tiger prawns pair, plus a selection of more than 100 types of sake. Dining at the 10-seat omakase counter offers an unforgettable experience —thanks in part to chef Yoshi’s dynamic personality — but an a la carte meal feels just as special.
