Professor Mudiwa Onai was a witch of African origin who taught Divination at Uagadou and later Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the late 19th century. She was the mother of Natsai Onai, a Gryffindor student that transferred to Hogwarts from Uagadou following her job change.

Biography

She once taught Divination at Uagadou. She was a gifted Seer whose faith was shaken by the fact that she did not foresee the death of her husband. Deciding to leave those painful memories behind, she accepted an invitation by Professor Weasley to teach Divination at Hogwarts. She was an Animagus, haven taken the form of an African fish eagle, but refused to transform after her husband was murdered. She had sent her daughter, Natsai Onai, to Uagadou, but after becoming the Professor of Divination at Hogwarts, she transferred Natsai there so that the two could be together. She preferred to conjure magic with her bare hands.

Mudiwa had a friend Amali back home. They were persumably colleagues at Uagadou and after Mudiwa left for Hogwarts, they kept in contact, writing letters to each other.

1890-1891 school year

Mudiwa Onai in the battle for the final repository

At the end of the 1890–1891 school year, when Ranrok invaded the Keepers' Caverns with the aim of obtaining the final repository and supplanting wizardkind with goblinkind, Mudiwa Onai defended Hogwarts Castle against his army of Loyalists and trolls, ensuring the safety of not only the school, but also the wizarding world as a whole. Mudiwa Onai was present at the memorial ceremony for Eleazar Fig which took place after Ranrok's final defeat at the hands of the late-coming student she had helped to teach that year.

Personality and traits

Mudiwa was strict and had high expectations of her students and her daughter. She had a commanding presence in any room she entered and demanded respect from all with whom she interacted.

Magical abilities and skills

• Divination: She was a natural born Seer. She also taught Divination at Uagadou and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, indicating she was well-learned in this field.
• Transfiguration: She was an Animagus and took the form of an African fish eagle, but largely refrained after her husband was killed.
• Wandless magic: She could conjure magic with her bare hands.
• Apparition: She was capable of Apparating to other places at will, as she Apparated to the location of the new student and Professor Fig, along with other professors, in order to help them.
• Duelling: She was a skilled duellist in her own right, and was able to fight against an army of goblins invading the castle, by blasting them and protecting herself from their attacks with the Shield Charm.

• Wand: Despite being skilled at wandless magic due to her upbringing in Uagadou, she obtained a wand at some point following her acceptance of the post of Divination Professor at Hogwarts.
• Adventure novel set (possibly): This was a set of old and worn, serialised adventure novels in which an image of a Gazelle was sketched.
