- "The dimly lit corridor was full of dust; half the ceiling seemed to have fallen in; and a battle was raging before him, but even as he attempted to make out who was fighting whom, he heard the hated voice shout, "It's over, time to go!" and saw Snape disappearing around the corner at the far end of the corridor; he and Malfoy seemed to have forced their way through the fight unscathed."
- — The Battle of the Astronomy Tower[src]
The Astronomy Corridor[2] was a passage beneath the Astronomy Tower, allowing access to a reading room[2] and a spiral staircase leading to the top of the tower.[3] It contained access to Satyavati Shah's bedroom.[1]
History[]
In the 1890–1891 school year, the corridor was often filled with students and cats. Arthur Plummly would often loiter around this section of the castle.[1]
Minerva McGonagall found Draco Malfoy in the corridor waiting for Harry Potter and Hermione Granger to pass with Norbert. Argus Filch later caught the two Gryffindors in the corridor after descending the stairs without the Cloak of Invisibility.[3]
In 1996, the fifth years discussed in the corridor the attack on McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid that they had witnessed during their Astronomy examination.[4]
In 1997, half of the corridor's ceiling seemed to have fell in as a result of the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, covering the passage in dust. Harry chased Severus Snape and Draco Malfoy along the corridor.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the Game Boy Color adaptations of the Harry Potter games, the corridor that gives access to the Astronomy Tower is a very curvy passage, with sketches of constellations on the walls.
