The Monkey Show, Part 2 is the ninth episode of the seventh season of The Golden Girls and the one-hundred and sixty-fourth episode overall. Directed by Lex Passaris and written by Mitchell Hurwitz and Marc Sotkin, it premiered on NBC-TV on November 9th, 1991. It is the second part of the two-part The Monkey Show special.
Summary[]
As the storm hits, Dorothy learns that Sophia encouraged Gloria to sleep with Stan. When she confronts her, Sophia angrily walks out into the hurricane Rose and Blanche bomb hosting the Save the McKinley Lighthouse telethon.
Plot[]
After being awakened from fainting, Dorothy is furious and Stan has called Dr. Halperin who arrives at the scene with his date Carol Weston, he has told Carol of his client list, using fake names but she can see what Stan and Dorothy are as their fake names were rhymes, however Halperin tells Stan and Dorothy such a event will happen and if Dorothy wants to speak she can half price. At the TV Station only one of the entertainers have arrived due to the bad weather and so Blanche and Rose will try and improvised the 8 hour telethon in order to save a lighthouse. As Dorothy is trying to understand what happened Gloria and Stan reveal Sophia suggested they went together, so Dorothy tells off Sophia who doesn't understand what the problem is and decides to run off. During the telethon the only entertainer was a bird caller, which clearly the hosts are happy to stop him but then a update appears the lighthouse has been destroyed and the station is turned into a shelter. At the house Dorothy is looking for Sophia when two officers appear who are there to evacuate anybody from the house, Dorothy tries to look for Sophia but instead finds Stan and Gloria in bed again, she even tries to get the cops to shoot them but in the end the older officer tells Dorothy they can't and they end up going to the shelter. Sophia is with Angelo telling him about what she did and unable to understand Dorothy's reaction as she use to give Gloria Dorothy's old belongings before but Angelo reminds her that her daughters are grown and she shouldn't pass a man between them especially Stan. With those words Sophia is ready to go to the shelter however they are trapped inside. At the shelter Stan and Dorothy decide they need to be in contact as they get on better as ex's and they have family together. Sophia and Angelo are saved and Sophia apologies for her behavior towards Dorothy and the storm ends as well.[1]

Notes[]
- The episode derives its title from Dr. Halperin suggesting that Stan transfer his feelings for Dorothy to a surrogate, namely, a toy doll of a monkey kept in his office.
- A monkey show is a form of entertainment featuring apes or monkeys, usually at a fair or circus.
- Angelo mentions that he was trained to deal with emergencies in the Italian Army. Actor Bill Dana, who played Angelo, served as an infantryman and linguist in the United States Army during World War II.

- This is an hour-long episode split into two parts for syndication.
- Cop #2 is played by Matthew Saks, one of Bea Arthur's sons.
- This episode was part of Hurricane Saturday, one-off programming block of a three-way, two-hour crossover event on NBC which involved three television sitcoms created by Susan Harris -- The Golden Girls, Empty Nest and Nurses -- crossing over with a hurricane. Local NBC Miami weatherman Bryan Norcross would play the weatherman for each series giving reports on the storm thus getting the characters through it. Incidentally, during the following summer of 1992, Norcross would come to greater national attention as the meteorologist who guided South Floridians through Hurricane Andrew. one of the worst natural disasters in American history.
Cultural references[]
- When sitting at the kitchen table, Sophia likens her family to the Gabors, with herself as their mother, Gloria as Zsa Zsa and Phil as Eva with Dorothy being overlooked. There was actually a third Gabor sister, Magda, who also was overlooked.
Goofs[]
- After Dorothy, her mother, and sister, and Angelo all enter the telethon set, Angelo eventually walks away from the group and the shadow of the boom mic can be seen on his head.
