And Ma Makes Three is the twentieth episode of the third season of The Golden Girls and the seventy-first episode overall. Directed by Terry Hughes and written by Winifred Hervey, the episode premiered on NBC-TV on February 20th, 1988.
With all her friends either dying or moving away, Sophia becomes the "third wheel" in Dorothy's latest relationship, and acts as a chaperone on their dates.
Plot[]
Sophia is blue after her last best friend “Bernice” has moved away + her other friends (Gladys went to live with her daughter, Eddy got married, Alice died, Lillian’s still around, but she thinks she’s pinky lee), so Dorothy feeling sorry for her, lets come on the golfing date with Raymond her current boyfriend. However, in the days that follow Sophia clings to them, Dorothy tries dumping her but fails so Raymond suggests a trip to the Bahamas, which Sophia invites herself.
That night Dorothy doesn't know what to do, she's thinking about canceling the trip, Rose tries to help with a story from a comic strip which fails, also has her hitting Sophia on the door. The next day Sophia is packing but not for the Bahamas she went to the centre and made some new friends and they are going to Cancun, Dorothy thinks she's pretending and so Dorothy decides to end it with Raymond feeling that Sophia needs her more.
Blanche and Rose have been competing with each other to Fashion Show Chair, only to lose to a woman who's husband offered cheap liposuction. Sophia is waiting for her ride, Dorothy tries to get her to stop lying only for the doorbell to ring and Sophia's new friends are waiting, Dorothy is shocked realising she underestimates her Mother.[1]
This is the first episode where a sidewalk from the driveway is evident. It makes no sense in relation to the home's interior, but at least it shows a way into the house.
Goofs[]
When Sophia packs for her trip, she folds a blue shirt twice.
When Raymond asks Sophia if she's played before, her hand is on the door frame. In the next shot, she is gesturing with this same hand.
Rose puts at least two pancakes on the plate, but when Blanche takes it there is only one.
