Torn by Ednaswap (Natalie Imbruglia version) is featured in Naked, the twelfth episode of Season Four. It is sung by Rachel.
It is the first song of the episode. Rachel and the old Rachel have a sing-off because the "old Rachel" is sure that Rachel doesn't need to expose herself for a student film. She sings as the old Rachel stands across from her, disappointed at her choices to become who she is now. They both sing as the classroom begins to be filled. The new Rachel seems to be annoyed and unsteady as she is followed around by her old self. When the new Rachel sings in front of the mirror at her apartment, the old Rachel can be seen singing back, making Rachel seem annoyed. Rachel is obviously torn between whether to do the topless scene or not and at the end of the performance, she agrees to do so.
Lyrics[]
Rachel:
I thought I saw a man brought to life
He was warm he came around
Like he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry
Well you couldn't be that man I adored
You don't seem to know or seem to care
What your heart is for
Well I don't know him anymore
There's nothing where he used to lie
My conversation has run dry
That's what's going on
Nothing's fine
I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
You're a little late
I'm already torn
So I guess the fortune teller's right
I should have seen just what was there
And not some Holy light
But you crawled beneath my veins
And now I don't care, I have no luck
I don't miss it all that much
There's just so many things
That I can't touch
I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
You're a little late
I'm already torn
Torn
Ohh (Hey), Ooo (Hey, yeah)
There's nothing where he used to lie
My inspiration has run dry
That's what's goin' on
Nothing's right I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
I'm all out of faith (I'm all out of faith)
This is how I feel (How I feel)
I'm cold and I am shamed
bound and broken on the floor
You're a little late
I'm already torn
I'm already torn
I'm torn
I'm torn
Oh, Oh whoa! (Oh!)
Oh yeah, oh yeah (Oh whoa!)
I'm already torn
Trivia[]
- Natalie Imbruglia said in an interview to Toofab that she is "flattered" that they chose to do a cover of her music. "Lea has an amazing voice and it is very versatile. I think she could be successful in the career that she wants," says Natalie.
- This is the second "duet with oneself" that is featured on Glee. The first was Le Jazz Hot by Kurt in Duets.
- In the Bushwick sequence, the "new" Rachel is seen wearing the same clothes she's wearing for her Season 5 promo pic.
Mistakes[]
- When the NYADA students first enter the Dance 101 Classroom as Rachel is having a duet with herself she and other students walk past a large, full length mirror. Despite being the actual Rachel, her reflection cannot be seen in the mirror, while the other students can.
