Perhaps Phil Foglio's first major claim to fame, What's New with Phil and Dixie appeared in Dragon Magazine[1] and satirized the world of fantasy-role-playing gaming. It was many people's introduction to Phil's work.
Aside from sharing Phil's writing and artwork, What's New with Phil and Dixie also has some more direct links with Girl Genius. In various pages from the series there are:
- A "guest appearance" by Agatha and Krosp (the characters are not named, but they appear in panel four)
- Three appearances by Krosp where he is referred to by name:
- One more brief appearance (panel five) by an unnamed Krosp
- A poster for Girl Genius appears in the background of three panels of this page
