Shizuru Isurugi (石動 静流 Isurugi Shizuru) is a supporting character in the anime series Free! beginning with Free!-Dive to the Future-. He is a high school student at Iwatobi High School and a continuing member of the Iwatobi High School Swim Club under Rei Ryugazaki's captaincy and thereafter.
Appearance[]
Shizuru is a taller than average young man with blue eyes, dark brown hair, and a somewhat dour expression at all times. During training, he wears the usual uniform of the Iwatobi swim club.
Personality[]
History[]
Story[]
Shizuru first appears when Nagisa Hazuki wants to take photos of the new club members in order to send them to Makoto Tachibana. Shizuru can also be seen practicing at ITSC RETURNS when the Swim Club begins preparations for nationals. He later expresses great interest in the camel that appears in the promotional video for the club and he is the one who discovers the guide from Gou Matsuoka's island training camp from years ago.
Relationships[]
Ryuji Azuma []
When Ayumu Kunikida says Gou's name descriptions are too long, Shizuru mentions that "Perfect Killer Handsome Muscles" was a big hit[1]. In response to this, Ayumu asks "for who?" and Shizuru replies, "with my relative" implying that Ryuji Azuma, also known as PKH Azuma, is related to him.
Trivia[]
- He suffers from severe motion sickness, to the point of passing out.[2]
- His family owns a seafood shop and the seaweed gathered by diving is why Shizuru is good at swimming.
Note[]
There is currently conflicting evidence as to whether Ryuji is Shizuru's Grandfather or his Uncle. As such, the Free! wiki will currently simply list them as being relatives until the exact nature of their relationship is properly defined.
