The Iwatobi Swimming Club is the original natatorium where Goro Sasabe works as an instructor while Haruka Nanase, Makoto Tachibana, Rin Matsuoka and Nagisa Hazuki are in elementary school and where he coaches them into becoming a winning relay team. The building falls into disuse and begins to fall apart until Sasabe restores it and renames it ITSC RETURNS.
Kakeru, Kai, Wataru and Riku are characters who only appear in the second volume of High☆Speed, the novel. They are seen in Chapter 4 (Start) as the second-place winners of the medley relay during a tournament between community-based swim club teams. They encourage Nagisa, who is downcast after a lackluster performance in his solo race and on the verge of quitting competitive swimming. The boys swim back stroke, breast stroke, butterfly stroke and forward crawl (aka free), respectively, and demonstrate the power of companions in keeping an athlete motivated.
