Olaf is a minor antagonist in the Big Idea franchise, VeggieTales. He is the leader of the Vikings, the rulers of the seas, and always stole many things from the Monks from the monastery. However, when he and the Vikings realize Lyle, their fellow viking, makes friends by sharing, they redeemed themselves and became friends with Lyle.
Background[]
Olaf and the other Vikings loved to steal things from the monastery and give them to their wives. However, there was one Viking who did not like to steal things, named Lyle. When Olaf saw Lyle, he asked Lyle why he missed another raid. Lyle responds that he was making potholders, before he sails off on his own. Olaf becomes suspicious about Lyle's behavior, as he does not seem to follow the code of the Vikings.
One day, two Vikings, Sven and Ottar, spot Lyle heading to the monastery, where he gives the Monks a bag of loot (which the Vikings gave him) and a few of his potholders. Sven and Ottar get angry about this, so they confront Lyle and tell him that he should stop what he is doing. But Lyle persuades the two by telling them that sharing is better than stealing, because he can get friends by sharing. Sven and Ottar started to think Lyle's methods are better than theirs, but in the meantime, they knew Lyle would be in big trouble if Olaf learned what he was doing, so they decided to not let Olaf find out. Unfortunately, it would be easier said than done.
The next day, the Vikings head out to raid the monastery again. However, Ottar realizes Lyle is at the monastery, so he tries to distract Olaf by saying there is a fish with a pretty yellow circle at the bottom of the backside of his fin and more just like it with the little one having a funny grin. He then says there is a big fish that has purple spots and orange and yellow markings and a dorsal fin that is iridescent green. Sven also tries to distract Olaf by saying that there is a turtle wearing pink pajamas and a cowboy hat. The duo tell him they see lots of other things. However, Olaf does not believe them, before he spots Lyle giving the bag of loot and potholders to the Monks, which angers him very much, as a big storm comes.
Olaf confronts Lyle, tears the sails on Lyle's boat, and throws away his oars, leaving Lyle drifting away in the sea. However, all of the Vikings fall into the sea due to a huge wave. Another wave knocks over Lyle's boat, which causes him to fall into the sea as well. The Monks rescue Lyle using a life-ring. The Vikings discover this and realize Lyle was right about sharing. Lyle convinces the Monks to rescue the other Vikings, which the Monks agree to.
After the Vikings are saved, they thank Lyle and decided to share from now on. The story ends with the Vikings, including Lyle and their wives, sailing across the sea.
Personality[]
Olaf is cruel and greedy. He and his Viking members like to steal things from the Monks, just to make their wives happy. He gets angry when he discovers Lyle giving things back to the Monks, though he later realizes that Lyle was right to share, and redeemed himself, being friends with Lyle.
