Najaf is greeted by Kamala and her mother Muneeba, from his food truck, while the pair are running errands. He acknowledges the two, and briefly inquires about Muneeba's wellbeing. He makes conversation, complaining about the changing scope of the neighborhood, with the rich buying up the land, and Kamala wonders if that means they may get a Halal Guys, nearby, but Najaf reminds her, that they charge for extra sauce.[1]
He attends the Eid Al-Adha festival, held near the local mosque, to work. While on duty, Nakia approaches him for her campaign, as she is running for the mosque board. He agrees to give her his vote, if she agrees to make him the exclusive catering vendor, for all masjid holidays and special events. She agrees to do so, and hands him a poster of herself, which he places on the window his food truck.
That evening, Najaf and the others are attendees of the festival are alerted to the screams of a young boy, and find that he is hanging by a curtain, attached to a rail, from the window of the mosque tower. As he screams for help, Najaf points that Night Light, a local superhero, is approaching Hameed. He watches as the the heroine tries to calm young Hameed's nerves by distracting him, and the pair talk his favorite food, which he mentions is a combination of ice cream on pizza, to Najaf's confusion. When the rail breaks, Hameed falls, but Night Light manages to create an energy construct, which the two land atop of, mid-air. Najaf and the others give a round of applause for Night Light's heroics, but before Hameed can safely climb onto the roof, the construct shatters. Night Light manages to create smaller constructs below him, as he descends, to cushion his fall, but nonetheless, he drops onto the hood of a car, injured. Najaf and the others in crowd proceed to gather around him.[2]
Sometime later, Najaf serves a customer, when he looks past, and sees Night Light, walking through the city, on her light platforms, now sporting a new superhero uniform.[3]
That evening, a video circulates of Coles Academic High student, Zoe Zimmer, informing her followers that Damage Control have targeted two of her friends who have superpowers, and urges her audience to share the story, and arrive at the school in protest. Najaf leaves his food van, and attends the rally, where he is joined by various members of the local community.[3]
Najaf watches on, as a young powered boy exits the school and Damage Control try to apprehend him. When they begin shooting, Night Light arrives, for his protection, while the crowd objectifies at Damage Control's actions. The powered boy throws a DODC vehicle in response, but it ricochets onto the crowd. Before it can crush Najaf and the other protestors, Night Light uses her embiggened hands to take hold of it, saving the group. The boy releases a surge of energy, which produces a large scale of crystalline constructs everywhere, but Night Light manages to placate him. The boy gets away, leaving Night Light alone, and Najaf, along with the others, gathers around her, to prevent Damage Control from having her arrested. Before she can be detained, Night Light creates constructs in the air to escape, and Najaf and the others cheer for her victory.[3]
Following the events that transpired, Najaf shares a recording of himself for social media, detailing his account of what happened between Night Light and the DODC, and claims the superheroine stated that his gyros were the best in Jersey City.[3]
