In parallel with his studies, he volunteered in student government and became president of the MIT Graduate Student Council in 2005. He also joined the Boston Pride organization, where he volunteered for 15 years, including 10 years as a board member and five years as board president. Over the years, he has participated in and managed many political campaigns and operations, including volunteering for high-profile candidates like Elizabeth Warren. He became a US citizen in 2018.

Sylvain’s dedication to activism spans nearly two decades, reflecting his deep commitment to political engagement and community service. With his extensive experience and global perspective, Sylvain is ready to represent the people of Tennessee effectively.

  • I am running because the TN legislature is out of control and out of touch with regular Tennesseans. When elected, I will work for you and your families, not special interests, not the extremes. The TNGOP supermajority is promoting an unprecedented transfer of public wealth to private pockets. In every domain, they are moving our taxpayer dollars away from public services and into the private hands of millionaires outside our state. They are waging a culture war to divide Tennesseans and implement extreme policies in education, healthcare, and public safety that the very large majority of ALL Tennesseans reject. This needs to stop; we must break the supermajority.
  • I am running because it is time we embraced investments in public education, healthcare, and an economy that works for everyone. When elected, I will protect our public schools from book bans, bankruptcy, vouchers, and arming teachers. I will fight for increases in teacher pay and school funding, and for the prioritization of academic excellence. When elected, I will fight for compassionate reproductive justice and access to affordable healthcare by all. I will oppose the criminalization of the work of doctors, nurses, and clinicians. I will work to expand Medicaid in TN. When elected, I will oppose corporate hand-outs and support removing the grocery tax. I will fight for wage increases for Tennessee workers.
  • I am running because many communities in Tennessee are denied a voice in the legislature, including rural Tennesseans, Black and Brown communities, and LGBTQ+ folks. All Tennesseans deserve representation and a State Rep that works for them and engages with them.

I am passionate about many areas of public policy, including public education, healthcare, social justice, innovation, and defense. My priorities, when elected, will be to defend reproductive justice, women's rights, public education, and the safety of ALL Tennesseans.

Honesty, integrity, attention to both the big picture and granular details, and hard work.

- Be informed and learn about the issues and topics from the experts and stakeholders
- Engage with and listen to ALL your constituents
- Practice empathetic and patient pedagogy with all stakeholders
- Hold budgets as moral documents
- Be proactive and embrace tough decisions
- Be respectful of others, always, but don't shy away from telling it like it is

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. I was eight years old. It taught me about "people power" and the fact that communities can effect change to improve their lives.

Rescinding the total ban on reproductive rights for women. This affects everyone in Tennessee.

Financial transparency should be total except in some defense and security matters. Government accountability is critical and must be upheld no matter the circumstances.
