In English law, a writ of scire facias (from the Latin meaning "to cause to be known") is a writ founded upon some judicial record, such as a judgment or letters patent, requiring the defendant to appear in court and show cause as to why the record should not be enforced against him or her. This writ has since been eradicated in the United States, but it may still be found in other legal systems. The writ of scire facias was once considered to be a type of prerogative writ but it is now usually described as one of the extraordinary writs.[1][2][3]
