The term union rights in contracts between employers and unions refers to a number of negotiable clauses whose purpose is to maintain or increase the strength of the union. Common examples include fair share fees, maintenance of membership, membership dues deduction and provisions to release union officers from their classroom duties for the conduct of union business. Other possible union rights clauses may involve union access to school mailboxes or other communication facilities.
