Zama's campaign website stated the following:

EDUCATION Despite being illiterate and poor, my parents instilled in me the importance of an education. I grew up in a small grass hut in an African village with few formal educational opportunities. My initial attempts to gain admission into one of the regions two missionary schools was unsuccessful; however, I was determined. When a new school opened, with my uncle’s persistence and my tears, I was admitted to that school. As I began to learn more things about the world beyond my village, my desire for further education became unstoppable. Eventually, armed with $20 and a one-way ticket I arrived in New York City in the land-of-opportunity and embarked on a new educational journey that rewarded me with a college diploma, a master’s degree, a PhD, and an MD. I can honestly testify to the power of education and will make it my priority that all Pennsylvanians realize its importance. Pennsylvania should be the leader in education; unfortunately, we have fallen behind. As a drum major for education, I want to work with our great teachers to provide every child in our commonwealth access to resources and opportunities to prepare them for a better future. “There is always hope. We all have a purpose.” — Dr. Nche Zama, MD, PhD
Like other states in the union, Pennsylvania has gone through a painful time with the Covid pandemic. As a doctor, I have witnessed countless patients suffering and dying from this virus which has devastated families, communities, businesses and healthcare institutions. Personally, I continue to mourn the loss of many loved ones snatched away by this virus. I am particularly concerned about the immediate and long-term consequences to Pennsylvania from the poor management of this pandemic. I am concerned about the stark deficiencies it has revealed in our healthcare infrastructure. As governor I will establish a high-performance team to develop preemptive strategies to address any future infection threats to our Commonwealth. My administration will maintain a people-centered approach in all healthcare decisions and strategic initiatives. We have some of the best healthcare institutions and providers in the world. Under my leadership I will stimulate and support medical research and innovation to make Pennsylvania a global leader and promote strategies to attract and retain the best healthcare providers to our state. We must become the global leader in quality, affordable health care. It is heartbreaking when, for financial reasons, someone must choose between buying the medication they need and feeding their family. We will exploit every opportunity to lower healthcare costs and deliver the best outcomes to everyone, especially our most vulnerable: the elderly, veterans, our children and the economically disadvantaged among us. Additionally, I will work tirelessly to address the opioid epidemic and mental health crises plaguing Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvania must become the global leader in quality, patient-centered healthcare.” — Dr. Nche Zama, MD, PhD
For too long Pennsylvania has been crippled by a bloated government embracing bureaucratic red tape, high taxes and archaic inefficient policies which shackle our companies and businesses and stifle growth and job creation. Minority businesses and other small businesses in poor communities have been deserted in the wilderness. As governor I will embark on aggressive strategies to address any existing business inequities and direct appropriate resources to uplift and support them. My administration with its high-performance teams, will foster greater and sustainable connections between our academic centers and industries, and will chart a new course in business support, guided by efficiency and success metrics, while focusing our resources on assisting new and established businesses to grow, adding jobs, and transforming our economy to a global force with an enviable market share. “As I have done in my professional career, I will lead high performance teams, identify problems, propose solutions, implement appropriate measures, monitor results and achieve success.” — Dr. Nche Zama, MD, PhD[2] |
