The city of Jersey City, New Jersey, held a general election for mayor, three at large city council seats, and six by district city council seats on November 7, 2017. In four of the races, no candidate earned a majority of the votes cast in the general election and therefore advanced to the runoff election on December 5, 2017. Eight candidates filed for the general election for the three at-large city council seats, including incumbents Rolando R. Lavarro Jr., Daniel Rivera, and Joyce Watterman. Joe Conte, Pamela Johnson, Rick Johnson, and Denise Ridley filed to run in the general election for the Ward A city council seat. Incumbent Frank Gajewski did not file to run for re-election.
Incumbent Chris Gadsden, Jessica Hellinger, and Mira Prinz-Arey filed to run in the general election for the Ward B city council seat. Incumbent Rich Boggiano, Janet Chevres, John Hanussak, and Rekha Nandwani filed to run in the general election for the Ward C city council seat. Incumbent Michael Yun, Moriah Kinberg, Rafael Torres, and Carmen Vega filed to run in the general election for the Ward D city council seat.
Six candidates filed for the general election for the Ward E city council seat, but incumbent Candice Osborne was not among them. Meanwhile, six candidates also filed for the general election for the Ward F city council seat, including incumbent Jermaine Robinson.
This was the first election cycle following the passage of Public Question 1 in 2016. The measure, which passed with over 57 percent approval at the polls, moved the city's election dates from a May primary and June general election to a November general election and December runoff.

In order to run in the primary election, candidates had to file by September 5, 2017. Winners of this election cycle took office on January 1, 2018.[1]

The general election for mayor and city council shared the ballot with general elections for Hudson County's clerk and board of chosen freeholders, as well as school board elections for the Jersey City school districts.
