The city of Chicago, Illinois, held a special election for the Ward 4 seat on the city council on February 28, 2017. Incumbent Sophia King won the election with a majority and avoided a runoff election on April 4, 2017.[1]


King was appointed in April 2016 to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of William D. Burns. She served the remaining two years on Burns' term that expired in 2019. Former President Barack Obama endorsed King in the race in January 2017, his first political endorsement following his presidency.[2]
