Campaign themes

Parker answered the following about her campaign in a July 2014 interview with the Columbia Daily Herald:[2]

How would you characterize the current relationship between school board and county commission? What would you do to maintain or change it?
The relationship appears strained. Each body wants progress, but they seem to work independently. As a School Board Member, I would seek to communicate regularly with the Commission. I believe the Commission should be involved in long-range facility planning because funding depends on the commission’s approval for such projects.

What do you believe is he most pressing issue facing the school board and how would you address it?
The most pressing issue facing our schools is the development of a Strategic Plan. I hope that this plan will address improvement of academic performance, retention of quality teachers, and consideration of capital improvements. Currently, I do not believe the school system has a thoughtful approach to address these issues.

How effective do you believe Eddie Hickman has been as the schools director? Explain.
I am concerned that Director Hickman has not been able to reach many of the personal goals that he has set for himself individually and for the school system as a whole. [3]
