|I Grew up in the San Juan Islands, I've lived on Stuart Island and f Friday Harbor. The former had a population of about forty at its height, and the latter has a population of around twenty-five hundred. I have a large and diverse family with eight siblings, three of whom are native adopted. My family and upbringing have had an enormous impact on me, but that isn't the whole story. So what kind of person am I? I am the sort of guy who leads by example because anything less is hypocrisy, not leadership. I never ask someone to do something I would not do myself. I value honor, integrity, and courage above everything else. I crave knowledge and love to learn. I love the outdoors, and I can't stand to be away from the forest or the ocean for long. I have Dyslexia something that has shaped my outlook on life. My father captained a fishing boat in the baring sea, and a was Marine biologist. I take after that mix of intellectual and sea captain. I believe it's time for a new breed of politician, so I will become the change I want to see.
Honor and integrity are two of the most important things to me. I believe a society and a government cannot function without these virtues.
I want to inspire Unity bringing the Major parties together, and to get past the partisan issues and solve the problems that face Washington.
- I want to bring prosperity to Washington, by maintaing and growing our natural resources, reforming public systems to maximize the benefits to Washingtonians and giving Washington the best education system in the country.
I am personally passionate about police reform, education, mental health reform, foster care, and restoring our salmon runs. These are all very important to me, and I am very passionate about implementing them.
When I was younger, there were quite a few people I looked up to and tried to emulate. Community leaders and family members people who exemplified courage, integrity, discipline, and honor. But who were also always themselves, and didn't care what others thought of them, people like my grandfather, many of my old school teachers, and my older cousin Erik. I also have always loved history and have looked up to and been inspired by countless historical figures. Though as I've grown older, I've learned that people are not perfect, and we all have faults. So now, I do not aspire to follow the footsteps of others. I instead take and emulate the best qualities of others. For instance, I had the honor of meeting a man who was in the first wave at Normandy, so I wish to emulate his courage and resolve. I study men like Frederico Montefeltro and desire to emulate his mix of cunning and honor, Or a man like Bizmark who had such mastery of language that he convinced two nations to go to war in a way they felt was just with the same letter. There is no perfect man, and if I simply wish to emulate another, I will only be a shallow copy. I want to be Myself and to forge my own path learning from the successes and failures of men and women throughout history.
I believe integrity, courage, wisdom, and humility are the most important characteristics of any elected official.
I want to leave a legacy of unity, prosperity, and learning. I want to be remembered as someone who brought people together in a divided time, who was always the first one into the fray and the last one out. A leader who also looked out for the least fortunate first, but never forgot everyone else. Someone who inspired a love of learning in generations. Most importantly, I want to remember as someone who cared about the people he served more than himself and left Washington better than he found it.
The first events I can vividly recall was the death of our young black foal a few weeks after it was born. It was a beautiful black horse, and I thought that it would be mine as my older sisters each had a horse. I was very distraught at its death. Other memories from around that time were learning to swim in the pacific ocean as a toddler. Getting bucked off one of our horses, and thinking it was the most I'd ever had. I also Burned my back on our woodstove when I leaned against it, and my mom used our aloe vera plant to treat the burn. This all happened when I was two or three years old and living on Stuart island. I have other memories from that time, but those are the most notable.
My first job ever was a summer job working at the marina/resort at Roche harbor. I worked that job for two years.
My favorite books are the Thrawn trilogy by timothy Zaun. Though Anna Comnena's Alexiad is a close second, both are both epic and entertaining tales about cunning and intelligent individuals who think outside the box. One is fiction, and the other is a Primary/Secondary historical text. I think that represents my taste in literature well.
It means the Governor is the head of the executive branch. It is their job to make appointments, implement the state budget, veto laws that are not in the interest of Washington's people, command the national guard, root out corruption, grant pardons, and to set an example for all other public servants in the state. The Governor also has the duty and privilege to work with both the state legislator and judicial branches to create and implement policies.
I believe the ideal relationship is that of a healthy friendship wherein both parties work together closely to create and implement policies but also hold each other accountable.
I was going to pull a politician and say the people while I do love the people of this state. I love the state itself more, the ocean, forests, and mountains. We live in such a beautiful place, and I love it all so much. I don't think I could live anywhere else.
