I was raised on a farm on the Yakima River. I worked hop fields and cherry orchards, drove tractor and cut asparagus.

I attended the USC Film School, and was hired as the station manager for a public TV and radio station in Alaska. I met a remarkable, strong woman in Dutch Harbor, and we returned to Washington to start a family. Our oldest son recently graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in computer science and electrical engineering. Our youngest son is a freshman at the UW school of engineering.

I have been in public service for eleven years, and am currently the Enforcement Supervisor for the City of Seattle's Consumer Protection Division. I will make the most efficient use of my time as Governor, while never fundraising. I have demonstrated the ability to work with all levels of government, bringing together opposing ideas for stronger solutions.

This election must be about independence. Washington is independent. Republicans and Democrats are good people, though the current party leadership promotes divisiveness and distrust. I would be honored to be your Governor, and to promote respect for all Washingtonians.

  • I will lead a robust economic recovery by respecting health data, best budget practices, and by bringing all stakeholders to the table.

  • I am the only qualified candidate not asking for donations. Election integrity starts with transparency.

  • We must embrace technology to its fullest.

The maximum term for a state governor should not exceed eight years. Fresh ideas and motivated, efficient growth depend on it.

Hatred must not be promoted by political parties. Common sense can be found in both platforms. We need best budget practices as well as meaningful climate legislation - these two things must not be mutually exclusive or 'owned' by opposing camps.

Economic and Health policy must be data driven. Policy decision-making must be transparent.

Our parents and aging citizens must be able to enjoy their retirement. They need access to technology, independent housing and great health care.

Who we are is often defined by circumstance. Ernest Shackleton, leading an expedition through Antarctica, had his ship surrounded then destroyed by ice. It took 3 years and two harrowing lifeboat journeys, navigating by stars, for him to save his entire crew. Nelson Mandela, after 27 years in prison, was able to lead his country without hate in his heart for his prior opponents. Anyone who can survive against tremendous odds to do what needs to be done is worth looking up to.

I work extraordinarily well with all personalities, across all levels of government. I am motivated for the greater good, and remove roadblocks for others to succeed. I am intelligent, and one of the hardest workers others have seen. I have gained the trust and respect of everyone, and can bring together opposing sides to achieve amazing results.

Leading the state to economic strength and independence; promoting equality and opportunity for all; building trust and maintaining transparency.

I would like our state's rainy day fund to be at 20% of our operating budget. I would like a constitutional amendment limiting the governor to 8 years (two terms).

Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980. I had just turned 12. We watched from our porch as the ash blanked our newly planted hop field.

I was raised on a farm, so I was feeding pigs and unplugging sprinklers at a very early age. Though my Dad didn't pay me, my uncles had larger farms, and I would drive tractor for them in the spring, full-time in the summer. They put me on the payroll when I was 13.

The Count of Monte Cristo. Knocked down, but never out...

The kid from the Black Stallion (Alec Ramsey).

I went to the University of Southern California film school from 1986-1990. I was several credits short of graduating when I took my first manager job for a public television and radio station in Alaska. After watching the academic successes of my children, I returned to school, transferring my credits to the University of Washington. While working full-time (as well as police-commissioned off-duty overtime) I have taken one class per quarter for the past 4 years. I just completed my capstone class, and am one foreign language class from a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Social Sciences.

The governor must have a thorough understanding of all state agencies, must actively discourage party bickering, and must be capable of working efficiently with all stakeholders. As chief executive, it is imperative the governor has the trust of their constituency.

First, a governor must propose, sign, and implement a structurally balanced budget. Irregular revenues (in excess of expectations) must not be built in to future operating budgets. Instead, a robust rainy day fund must be grown to equal approximately 20% of the annual budget.

During the next term, having a governor the people trust is extraordinarily important. We will be focusing on keeping Washingtonians healthy, while also getting our economy going again. If a governor cannot bring everyone together to work towards these goals everyone suffers.

Proposing a balanced budget in December of even years is a constitutional requirement of the Washington State governor. As state agencies prepare budget requests, they must have the governor's trust to search for efficiencies without the 'fear' most agencies have - losing funding for subsequent years if they are honest about how they can save money now. When the legislature convenes, they will refer to the governor's budget as they create their own. The governor will eventually sign a budget approved by the legislature, which is appropriate.

The Washington State governor can make line-item vetoes. This was necessary recently, as the Covid-19 virus struck. Line item vetoes should be used in times of emergency - though not for political retribution.

The ideal relationship is one of trust and respect. A governor should be able to sit down with any member of the house or senate to discuss matters of import, and even ask for input.

The incredible diversity of our people and geography. We are global leaders in many agricultural products, (mainly eastern Washington) as well as technological advances (western Washington's specialty).

Our hiking, camping, fishing, skiing and other outdoor activities are awesome! Rivers, ocean, lakes, oh my!

Maintaining civility between the top two political parties.
