Expand all | Collapse all

A Texas native and Baylor alumnus twice over, Dr. James Rodgers has over 15 years of education experience from elementary schools to university level, serving in all manner of capacities and in a diverse array of settings from London to New York to Dallas.

Currently serving as a recruiter for an international Christian non-profit, James is a former small-business owner, consultant, and devoted husband and father. Seeing our neighborhoods underserved by well-intended, but ineffective government systems that are ultimately driving inner-city poverty and crime, Dr. Rodgers will serve as the next Republican Congressman for TX-30 by championing competition with an education marketplace, economic equality with Opportunity Zones, a Second Step Act for the GOP to transform approaches to law and drug enforcement, and by fiercely defending the civil liberties protected in the Constitution.

  • Cultivate economic independence and growth by reducing wasteful spending, limiting inflators, and using targeted investments to rebuild impoverished communities.
  • Remodel education through school selection and encourage classroom innovation with state education independence.
  • Defend civil liberties by fighting executive overreach and all other attempts to dismantle our Constitution.

Education has become the epicenter for political debate and discussion, and there is a good reason for that phenomenon. Schools help determine how our children think and who they will become. There is a reason our social media and school board meetings are in hot debate about Critical Race Theory, High-Stakes Testing, and the role of parents, among a litany of other divisive topics. Moreover, we cannot reasonably expect to lower Dallas’ 1 in 5 poverty rate, reduce crime, create new community wealth, or address any other societal ill with an ineffective and outdated school system. We need someone who can articulate why our schools aren’t working and how we can make them work to best support students, parents, and the community. We must empower our community from the ground up if we want long-lasting change.

Campaign website

Rodgers' campaign website stated the following:

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY

Our nation was founded upon the belief in small government, free-market principles, and the ability to pursue the American Dream. We are at a crossroads where our children’s future is being stolen by corrupt bureaucrats and horrendous economic policies. Dr. Rodgers has a multilevel approach to mending the economic stagnation which includes:

  • Cultivating economic independence and growth by reducing wasteful spending, limiting inflators, and using targeted investments to rebuild impoverished communities.
  • Disposing of the artificial creation of US currency while steering the economy away from a tax-heavy approach.
  • Reducing the size and scope of the federal government, focusing on eliminating unnecessary and anti-entrepreneurial regulations.
  • Utilizing Opportunity Zones, in lieu of endless social programs, to incentivize investment in distressed communities employing tax breaks for non-gentrifying, long-term funding to create jobs, generate tax revenue, and produce wealth for communities experiencing generational poverty.
  • Revitalizing our domestic energy capabilities by strengthening our energy infrastructure, ending dependence on foreign energy, tapping into our bountiful domestic resources, and investing into new technologies such as improvements to nuclear energy.
  • Limiting Federal Government interference in the development and implementation of Bitcoin and digital assets by easing the burdens of complicated and unnecessary new regulations on digital asset.

EDUCATION

Every child deserves quality access to education that shouldn’t be defined by their zip code! At one point, America set the standard for education across the globe but in the last several years the quality of education has decreased due to bloated bureaucracy and failed practices like common-core and standardized testing. Parents deserve a seat at the table and greater autonomy over their children’s education. As an experienced educator, Dr. Rodgers will fight for:

  • Remodeling education through school choice, respecting family rights, and encouraging classroom innovation with state education independence.
  • Granting all families school options, regardless of income or address, within an educational marketplace hosting a wide array of scholastic options for students, letting citizens reward the best learning models and letting the weakest die out.
  • Encouraging state experimentation with competing models of education in different settings, operating under uniform, state-developed criteria for student access and success.
  • Demanding educational transparency in which the community can clearly review and understand how curriculum, instruction, operations, and professional development support student success.
  • Redirecting school funding to focus on high-quality core curricula, replace group-level social-emotional learning from a group perspective by focusing on the student as individual learners, and improving access to Career and Tech programs.
  • Sponsoring an improved network of affordable community colleges, trade schools, and industry-internships to improve the variety of access to higher education.

IMMIGRATION

America’s strength has always been derived from its diversity. We are a land of immigrants who sought refuge to build a better tomorrow for our children. Our state of Texas is a shining example of a multicultural community built upon the labor of legal immigration. Dr. Rodgers plans to address immigration by:

  • Supporting comprehensive immigration reform which would effectively secure our borders, improve refugee programs for efficiency, explore trade relationships with neighboring countries to curb migration, and address the status of all illegal immigrants, undocumented residents, and legal residents.
  • Securing our borders through the creation and completion of any necessary physical barriers, hiring more border personnel, penalizing businesses who hire illegal immigrants, and holding a zero-tolerance policy for human traffickers.
  • Continuing to use Remain in Mexico policy to ensure our refugee programs remain efficient in helping those in the greatest need, while we explore continental and international trade policies to curb migration beyond the border, including private investment in The Northern Triangle.
  • Shifting our system of immigration by moving toward a merit-based system that takes into account the needs of our country and supports all applicants equally using criteria such as education, skills, criminal background, and family history.

COMPREHENSIVE CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

While the legal framework of this country is one of the greatest in the world, we can and should always strive to improve. The Founding Fathers emphasized restraint of the government and acknowledged the importance of a defendant’s rights. In many ways, we have fallen short of this which has led to the deterioration of trust in certain communities. Dr. Rodgers promises reform by:

  • Enacting a Second Step Act to continue the GOP’s promise to address systematic deficiencies by completing drug and police reform.
  • Improving funding for law enforcement to retain the existing police force and attract new community hires to serve in traditional and advanced roles to better collaborate with the local community, be proactive in addressing modern crime, and create a comprehensive police force to ensure safety in our neighborhoods.
  • Increasing reporting of officer-used force from independent forensic investigations from 40% to an eventual standard protocol, and using that data to: prevent bad actors from future service, reward good officers for faithful service, and praise the best departments and publicize their methods.
  • Broadening state freedom to regulate and enforce controlled substances, encouraging innovative approaches developed with input from our local neighborhoods, healthcare community, and local law enforcement to increase access to drug treatment, expand edification opportunities during incarceration, and a vigilant focus on suppressing violent crime.

HEALTHCARE

Every American is deserving of quick and quality healthcare. The solution to this is not to enact single-payer healthcare, as some on the Left might say, but to enable free-market competition while legislating protection for those who are most vulnerable in our society. Dr. Rodgers believes the best way to tackle the issue of healthcare is by:

  • Protecting pre-existing conditions, extending HIPAA portability, and lowering the cost of prescription pharmaceuticals to ensure that no American is left behind.
  • Decentralizing the Affordable Care Act’s centric approach by returning regulatory power back to the states while simultaneously establishing federally-funded, state-administered Guaranteed Coverage Pools to ensure individuals with high-cost illnesses have access to quality and affordable coverage.
  • Curtailing regulatory barriers such as allowing for the purchase of health insurance across state lines which will ensure competition in the marketplace.
  • Reforming the tax code to provide equal tax treatment in the employer and individual health insurance markets.
  • Resist all federal mandates and encourage individuals to rely on their personal healthcare provider to inform any medical decisions.

FOREIGN POLICY

America has long remained the beacon of freedom, liberty, and democracy in the world. While we must prevent wasteful entanglements, such as the failed conflict in Afghanistan, the United States must maintain a robust military presence and not bow to tyranny on the world stage. Dr. Rodgers believes this approach will include:

  • Returning to Republican principles by combining economic and militaristic might to ready a well-funded, versatile defense to carry out a Constitutionally-sound foreign policy.
  • Ensuring that the power to commit a nation to war be lodged in the power of Congress as stated in the Constitution.
  • Employing a strong standing armed forces stationed strategically throughout the US and with allies abroad, ready for fierce defense, but utilizing a humble, foreign policy.
  • Executing aggressive trade partnerships to leverage American financial might against bad foreign actors and to compel adherence to all international laws.
  • Investing in future military technologies to assist with cybersecurity and infrastructure security, an arena in which Americans are lagging behind in the international community.[3]
