2016
- Main article: Texas judicial elections, 2016
Palafox challenged incumbent Justice Steven Hughes for his seat on the Texas Eighth District Court of Appeals in the 2016 elections. Like Hughes, Palafox is a registered Democrat. Hughes and Palafox faced off in a five-way primary election. No Republicans filed to run for the seat.[1] Palafox and Maria Ramirez were the top two finishers in the March 1 primary. Because neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, they faced each other in a May 24 runoff. Palafox won. She was therefore unopposed in the November general election.
