The terms of five Oregon Supreme Court justices will expire on January 6, 2025. The five seats were up for nonpartisan election on November 5, 2024. A primary was scheduled for May 21, 2024. The filing deadline was March 12, 2024.
The Position 1 and 7 seats were up for election in 2024 due to a resignation or retirement from the court. Because of that and because only one candidate filed for each seat, the primaries were canceled. The candidates automatically advanced to the general election.[1]
With a total of seven justices on the Oregon Supreme Court, five justices ran for re-election without opposition. Justices Stephen K. Bushong in Position 1, Rebecca Duncan in Position 2, Meagan A. Flynn in Position 3, Aruna Masih in Position 5, and Bronson James in Position 7 each ran in the primary that took place will occur on May 21, 2024, followed by the general election on November 5, 2024. Based on the appointments of justices by Democratic governors, the court maintained its left-leaning majority.[2]
