Biography

David Thomforde was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He earned a bachelor's degree from Haverford College in 1975. He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1982. His career experience includes working as an occupational therapist and in management of programs for people with disabilities in India, Sierra Leone and the Republic of the Comoros.[1]

I am a retired occupational therapist. I am married to Kathryn Hunter, a retired forester. I volunteer in a number of service organizations including Helping Hands Ministry (free home repair and modification for those without means), red cross (facilitation the provision of aid to those affected by disaster), Habitat for Humanity (home construction and repair for those in need and Table Grace (food for those in need)

  • I am aware of the challenges faced by residents of my district
  • The incumbent focuses on Nashville politics.
  • The incumbent takes extreme positions as prolife and progun

compassion, knowledge of local conditions and needs, ability to persuade, ability to know when to stand on principle and when to be flexible and negotiation in the interests of getting things done

honesty, persistence, strong beliefs, aware of community needs through volunteer work in home repair and food distribution, through working in a physical rehabilitation center

leadership, working to meet individual and collective needs of constituents, educating constituents

a district with better housing, medical care, wifi and reduced food insecurity; more acceptance of minorities such as trans people and other lGTBQ individuals; greater regulation of firearms

assistant at a small assisted living center for 1 year

to kill a mocking bird; a portrayal of a man trying to bring justice to an unjust worldd

a balance between rootedness and travel; my wife and I have moved around the world alot and enjoyed it but at the same time, when I am with friends who live in the same town they were born in, I envy their roots

governor presents vision and legislature either passes laws to implement it or laws to implement an alternate vision depending on the relative parties

climate change, attracting an educated population, dealing with a greying population

previous experience does help a new legislator to get things done but can also make him less responsive to his or her constiuents.
