Education

Thomas earned his B.A. from Florida State University in 1977 and received his J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law in 1982.[1]

Career

After graduating from the University of Florida College of Law, Thomas spent two years as the law school's Assistant Director of the Appellate Advocacy Program. In 1984, he was briefly in private practice before serving as assistant general counsel for the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation. He was an assistant attorney general from 1987 to 1989 and assistant general counsel for the Florida Parole Commission from 1989 to 1991. From 1991 to 1996, he was an assistant state attorney for the 2nd Florida Judicial Circuit. He then became the staff director of the Florida Senate Criminal Justice Committee until 1997. After this, he worked as the council director of the Florida House of Representatives Justice Council until 1999. That year, he began working as the Public Safety Policy Coordinator for the Governor. He held this position until his appointment to the Court of Appeals.[1]
