Campaign themes
2017
Elmazi's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[4]
Neighborhood parks
- Excerpt: "I will advocate for reinvestment in our parks and recreational facilities. This will include formally assessing facilities, maintenance schedules, addressing public safety concerns, and easier neighborhood access to parks so residents can walk or bike to their neighborhood park."
Walkability and "bikeability"
- Excerpt: "As of today, getting around the city without a vehicle is virtually impossible. Through the neglect of our infrastructure we’ve put pedestrians and cyclists in great danger. Any smart development strategy recognizes the need to expand walkability and bikeability in high density areas of the city, and I would encourage the city to do more in this effort, especially in downtown and around the UT Arlington campus."
Regional connectivity
- Excerpt: "Public transportation reduces the number of commuters on the roads, which in turn will reduce congestion, traffic delays, pollution, and road wear and tear. These reductions translate in lowered street repair costs and better air quality. I applaud the public-private partnership that was created to fund the MAX service near UTA, and hope to get other officials and residents committed to expanding that partnership city-wide."
Economic development
- Excerpt: "The city should use its influence to support UTA’s transition from a commuter school to a residential campus by pursuing community development projects, especially in downtown Arlington. Businesses and high quality jobs are attracted to university campuses, and we have a great opportunity to further expand our economic development while also bringing a new level of vitality to residential living near UT Arlington."
Education
- Excerpt: "The City of Arlington must not only continue its supporting role of public education with Arlington ISD, but it must take on an even greater partnership with UT Arlington and TCC to better integrate the university and college with the city."
