Candidate Connection

Amberlee' Brooks participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on September 26, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Amberlee' Brooks's responses follow below.[5]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Improving Education

Improving Job Quality

Fiscal Responsibility[6][7]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I am very passionate about prison reform. The current system we have deepens racial disparities in the justice system, fuels anti-police grievances and prevents millions of former offenders from holding steady jobs, maintaining stable housing and providing for their families. One of the major solutions is finding the remedy to constant repeat offenders. I am in full support of helping the prison system to develop risk assessment tools to figure out what inmates need, and to create programs tailored to those needs.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[7]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Amberlee' Brooks answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

Condoleezza Rice because she is a woman with humble beginnings that got to a high level position through her tenacity, integrity and intelligence.[7]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
One characteristic that is lacking in most politicians is empathy. Most politicians forget that they are supposed to represent their district who are full of people that have diverse backgrounds and go through life. Our job as American politicians is supposed to make their life better whether the people voted for us or not. One of the reasons this happen is because most politicians want the esteem without working hard and sadly sometimes the easiest avenue is to become a politician. However, being a politician has great responsibility and requires a leader who has the best interest of the people they represent.[7]
What is your favorite book? Why?
My favorite book is Jane Eyre. It is a very adventurous and romantic novel. Additionally, it has a very intense approach of talking about feminism, religion, class and sexuality which is very ahead of its time.[7]
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
I do not think it is necessary. It does not take long to understand Robert's Rules of Order. Additionally, our Constitution has very limited qualifications for political offices for the purpose of having more diverse backgrounds.[7]
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Our State definitely needs Education reform and because of our current state of Education it is going to lead to economic and unforeseen problems in the future.[7]
