Linux's GRUB2 boot loader can boot Linux ISO files directly from your hard drive. Boot Linux live CDs or even install Linux on another hard drive partition without burning it to disc or booting from a USB drive. We performed this process on Ubuntu 14.04 -- Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based Linux distributions have good support for this. Other Linux distributions should work similarly. Get a Linux ISO File R
Ubuntu and most other Linux distributions now use the GRUB2 boot loader. You can change its settings to select a default operating system, set a background image, and choose how long GRUB counts down before automatically booting the default OS. We configured GRUB2 on Ubuntu 14.04 here, but the process should be similar for other Linux distributions. You may have customized the original GRUB's sett
Ubuntu and practically every other Linux distribution use the GRUB2 boot loader. Unless you have multiple operating systems installed, this bootloader is normally hidden -- but it provides options you may sometimes need. The boot loader is the part of Linux that loads when you first boot up your computer. It normally just boots the Linux kernel, which loads the rest of the operating system -- but

Ubuntu and many other Linux distributions use the GRUB2 boot loader. If GRUB2 breaks---for example, if you install Windows after installing Ubuntu, or overwrite your MBR---you won't be able to boot into Ubuntu. You can easily restore GRUB2 from a Ubuntu live CD or USB drive. This process is different from restoring the legacy GRUB boot loader on older Linux distributions. This process should work

We, like many Linux geeks, have had some trouble making the transition to Grub2, or for some of us, learning how to configure it from scratch. Fortunately, a new graphical tool has made this process easy and straightforward! Photo by e_monk.
