Java Jive announced it will be closing its doors after 30 years in business on Ponce de Leon Avenue. The announcement on social media says the eatery’s last day will be on December 22.
“It has been our pleasure to serve you, to fill you up with strong coffee, fluffy biscuits, comforting food, and hopefully fond memories,” reads the statement by owners Shira Levetan and Steven Horwitz on Facebook and Instagram.
“What a crazy ride it has been to be on Ponce for the last 30 years as the city has changed around us, yet we’ve remained the same ... We can’t begin to say how grateful we are to the many people who have kept us going for over three decades.”
Java Jive has continually landed Eater Atlanta’s essential breakfast list and classic Atlanta restaurants that continue to endure.
With its retro diner decor and affordable breakfast fare, this spot on Ponce has been serving bottomless coffee and one of the best biscuits in Atlanta since 1994. The fluffy biscuits with breakfast plates like the Sante Fe scramble and Greek omelet and specials like gingerbread waffles, have packed the dinette tables at Java Jive each week.
Comments are pouring in from diners, saying the restaurant will be missed for its hearty brunch and Southern hospitality.
“This place was the first place that felt like home to me in Atlanta and will forever be in my heart as my favorite,” says Wyndi Kappes on Instagram. “Will have to fly in for one last short stack. So much love and thanks.”
