This was an art piece that I ultimately rejected for use as my guest host piece, but I liked it enough to keep it.

This week's Sunday Postcard Art theme was "Oranges and Lemons." I thought it was one of them or both. Regardless, I struggled with the theme.

So, we'll go no more a roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.

For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul wears out the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And love itself have rest.

Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Yet we'll go no more a roving
By the light of the moon.

Round Flower Garden - Photograph

I took that photograph in my yard this past week.

During the 2020 covid-19 pandemic Lockdown here in Connecticut, US, I added a new flower bed to my yard. Some of the flowers in it were annuals, and some were perennials.

Last year (2021), I had a problem with my left hand, and was unable to do any weeding, etc. As a result, all of my flower garden efforts in 2020 were for naught, because weeds overtook all of the gardens again.

So now, in 2022, I am once again trying to reclaim the flower beds. I started with the round (circle) garden. The three Sage (Lavender?) plants are new, and filled in spaces where annual plants had been. I also planted some seeds that I harvested, which I hope sprout.

I took those photographs of the pumpkin seed sprouts I'm growing.

I got that pumpkin grow kit when I went to the Christmas Tree Shops. It had 3 seeds in it, and this is what has happened so far:

Jul 5 - I planted seeds in starter pot.
Jul 9 - Sprouts were just starting to push up the dirt.
Jul 10 - Plants sprouted above the dirt. (Photo 1)
Jul 11 - Plants are now already 5" tall, and need to be separated and repotted! (Photo 2)
Jul 15 - Repotted the three plants in a single pot. (Note: they were approaching being root bound in the starter pot.) (Photo 3)

I'm excited and thrilled. Although it says it can take 120 days to get pumpkins, so that will be butting up against frost time here in Connecticut US. But I am hopeful.

I took those photographs in my flower garden this past week.

I'm not sure what this is, and the flower hasn't fully grown yet, but I have a few of these growing in my flower gardens. It has a cluster of drooping bell shaped flowers growing on a single stem. I have pink, blue, and possibly white plants like this. If anyone knows what it is, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Completed Round Flower Garden - Photograph

Today (Sunday, June 14, 2020) I took those photographs of the new flower bed that I've added to my yard. By Tuesday, June 9, 2020, all of the flowers had been planted, and the last step to complete was to add the mulch. But on that day, my cat became sick and ultimately ended up needing Unexpected Emergency Major Surgery on Thursday, June 11, 2020.

My cat's recovery will take 14 days or longer. So far, the early signs look positive. And surprisingly, he was well enough this weekend where I felt comfortable enough to go outside and do a little yard work each day. But I don't want to jinx it, so I'm not relaxing until he's closer to the 10 to 14 day point.

Because of my cat's recovery, my blog activity will continue to be very limited for awhile.

Christmas Cactus In New Pot - Photograph

I repotted my root bound small Christmas Cactus in this new clay pot that I painted to make it look more like a Christmas pot.

Thanks goes to Elizabeth, for providing me with some plant repotting information and tips. (It's been a long time since I did anything with plants, so I was rusty, and she was very helpful.)

These are before and after photographs of the clay pot that I got and painted, to make it look more like a Christmas pot, for the small Christmas Cactus that I needed to replant.

I used the following on this pot:

Apple Barrel / Plaid - 20525 Berry Red (acrylic paint)
Apple Barrel / Plaid - 21981E Classic Caramel (satin acrylic paint) (looks sort of like gold)

Liquitex Professional Gloss Gel (gel medium)

I only did one coat of paint. I liked the weathered vintage look some of the underlying streaks of the original color gave it. I also didn't worry about perfection: if a little paint got onto areas where it wasn't supposed to be, I didn't let it bother me. (Usually I'm a perfectionist. With everything else going on right now, I eased up on myself, and ignored the minor mistakes.) Once the paint was dry, I did one coat of gloss on it, to make the colors stand out better. (I also liked how it looked with the matte paint colors, so I could've used a matte clear coat instead, but I decided to go with the glossy clear coat.)

The next step was to repot my root bound Christmas Cactus.
