First Brantwood, the last home of John Ruskin. This is a beautiful house perched up above Coniston Water with views across to Coniston.
I'm going to see if I can find some of these dramatic black grasses |
The stables are now a cafe |
Ruskin had a harbour built - the lake was quite rough but as you can see very calm in the harbour |
Our granddaughter was followed by a robin that we had met in the garden |
Even the loos were spectacular |
The next day we went to Conishead Priory which was originally built by Augustine Monks but is now a Buddhist retreat with a huge temple in the grounds. The Priory has seen lots of changes over the years but the grounds are beautiful.
One of the paths led to the beach where the children had a good time looking for crabs |
I hope you enjoyed this rather rushed tour,.
Thanks for looking, Chris

I've read that REAL stables were so clean you could eat off the floors. Now I know it's true (grin). and only YOU (OK, maybe me, too) would take photos of a loo. Especially one this pretty.
I really enjoyed the tour of both places, but was surprised when I saw the Buddha in the originally Christian environment. Although I read the Church was now a Buddhist retreat, it still surprised me. That says something, especially about how I don't understand religion. And that makes me feel sad that I don't understand it. Thankfully, I accept and appreciate it. Guess that's one of those lessons I had to learn the hard way. So thanks for pointing out my shortcomings, as I enjoyed the trips you took me on. Looks like everyone had a great time, too.
Gorgeous photographs Chris and you rekindled memories of the 70's when I spent many good years at the Lake District and in particular, Coniston. It's a beautiful lake and has the history of Donald Campbell too
TFS and crafty hugs
