Lookup Faculty/Staff eRA Commons IDs

Federated Account Recommendation

Once you get to eRA Commons, we still encourage you to use the "Login with Federated Account" option for additional security.

When you get to eRA Commons, select the University of Michigan. You'll be prompted to log in using your U-M two-factor authentication to then get access to Commons. No need to remember your eRA Commons User ID or Password.

Make sure your Commons password has not expired. Otherwise, you will not be able to link your Commons account to the U-M federated login.

When submitting to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), you need an eRA Commons ID. Many existing U-M-affiliated Commons IDs can be found in eResearch. This page explains how to look up an ID in eRPM.

The eRA Commons ID lookup is now more securely contained in eResearch. Please see below for brief details, or view the full ITS step-by-step instructions. (If you need access to eRPM to conduct this, first see ITS eRPM Job Aid.)

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Click Search.
  2. Click the eRA Commons ID tab.
  3. Select an option from the Search in drop-down list.
    • First Name is the default. Other options include Middle Name, Last Name, Uniqname, Commons ID.
  4. Enter search text.
    Notes
    • You may use + Add Filter to add as many criteria as needed to refine/narrow your search. When you enter more than one criteria, your search will need to match all entries.
    • Click the  question mark icon for additional search tips.
  5. Click  or press Enter.

The search results will then display. For those persons who have a Commons ID, it will be listed in the results.
