History

The Tactigon was created billions of years ago by the Prosilican Rapture as a child.[2] She eventually lost it and came into the possession of an unnamed extraterrestrial host. After being disconnected from its host in a battle many years ago, the Tactigon fell to Earth, landing in San Francisco. Sometime later, as troubled teen Violet Lightner attempted to kill herself by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge, the Tactigon detected her and attached itself to her forearm. Able to transform into the perfect weapon to defeat a given opponent, the Tactigon helped Violet to become a superhero called Armory[3] and enabled her to defeat a giant Ultimo robot that was attacking the Mighty Avengers.

Violet was later stripped of the Tactigon after accidentally killing MVP during a training session. Tactigon was then used by KIA, a clone of MVP.[4]

It later connected to KIA, a deranged clone of MVP. The Tactigon interfaced with this clone's mind, activating latent memories of the real MVP's death. Hacking into the Initiative's computer, the clone learned of his "death" and gained a list of all those who had been present at the time. KIA then went on a rampage in Camp Hammond, forcing many heroes to fight KIA. The more KIA fought, the more the Tactigon grew and covered his body. KIA was eventually defeated when he was mind-wiped by his fellow clone Michael.[5]

The Tactigon was eventually recovered, and kept away from the Initiative by Tony Stark.[6]

The Tactigon was later fell in the possession of an unnamed king of an unidentified planet. When the king's planet came under invasion from the Chitauri, the king chose to use the Tactigon to create a black hole that would consume his planet rather than let it be conquered. Thor and the Hulk went to sent to the planet to retrieve the Tactigon by the Promoter as part of a series of retrieval missions to obtain artifacts to proved themselves worthy to face the Champion of the Universe. The pair were successful in retrieving the Tactigon but then learned that the missions were just setups by the Promoter to use the items they retrieved to make herself unbeatable. During her fight with Hulk, Thor, and the Champion, Hulk reverted to Bruce Banner and was able to convince Promoter to give up her obsession with becoming strong. Promoter then returned the items taken, including the Tactigon.[7]

The Tactigon was stored in a warehouse in Camp Hammond along with other dangerous artifacts.[8] During the Reckoning War where hostile alien races were waging war, including the Brotherhood of the Badoon who had invaded Earth, Doom realized that this was part of a bigger situation.[9] So, he took the Tactigon from Camp Hammond[8] and waited in the Florida Everglades for the Cormorant to appear, knowing that he would come for the Tactigon. This was all part of a plan Doom had to locate Cormorant's master the Helmsman through their telepathic link and kill him so Cormorant could help him end the Reckoning War.[10]

Doom and Cormorant traveled to the Watchers' planet of Planet T-37X and confronted the Reckoning. However, the Tactigon's creator Rapture sliced the Tactigon in half using her more powerful War-Blades.[2]

Properties

The Tactigon was a very powerful weapon that found any enemy's weakness and adapted itself to exploit it. It was capable of emitting destructive energy blasts and could change its shape to conventional or esoteric weapons to fit whatever the situation required. It could also take over computers around it to gain information.[5][11][12]

The Tactigon was classified as Omega Class[13] and Omega-Level weapon,[14] and granted the status of Omega Level threat to KIA when he was in his possession.[15] It was compared to be at least at the level of the Kree Nega-Bands; Thor's hammer Mjolnir, and possibly even to the level of the Cosmic Cube.[13]

Notes

  • Other alien weapons with connections to the Tactigon have appeared on Earth, like the gauntlets used by Gauntlet and Southpaw.
