Centaurians

History

The extraterrestrial race known as the Centaurians originated in the Milky Way Galaxy on the planet Centauri-IV[1] in the Alpha Centauri star system.[2] Two other sentient races that evolved in that same star system are the Alpha Centaurians of Arima and the Centurii of Centuri-Six.

The species are blue humanoids with red crests atop their heads and along their backs. The religious beliefs of the Centaurian people have divided them into two groups. The religious Centaurians worship the god Anthos and they live their lives following the holy path that they call the Circle of Life which they believe is guided by sharing a oneness with Anthos. Among these Anthos worshippers, a religious leader is known as a Habaktu ("warrior holy man")[3] or an Anthosian priest.[4]

Those Centaurians who do not follow the Circle of Life are known as Akuun to the religious Centaurians because they are considered to be "ones-without-faith"[3] and/or godless.[5] The fact that, as part of their training, every Habaktu is taught that all Akuun must die indicates that the two groups do not interact peacefully.

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

The Centaurians are humanoid marsupials.[6][7]

Their crest, the Tahlei (often confused for a fin),[8] is supported by a bone crest.[9]


Reproduction/The Circle of Life[]

Reproduction is the only purpose for intimate relations among them, and therefore they have no interest in such relationships with non-Centaurians.[10] The crest (Tahlei) seems to have a role in their sexuality.[8]

Sub-species and powers[]

Some individuals are said to be "gifted" by the the gods, including Chandra, an empath.[11]

Mutants[]

The only recorded Centaurian mutant, Photon, possessed the abilities to fly and to project optic blasts. The elders of her tribe considered her to be an aberration, a Kavkov ("demon"), and wanted to kill her to appease Anthos. Photon only survived because her father fought to the death to give her mother enough time to escape from the tribe with their daughter.[6]

Incentaurians[]

Like the people of Earth, the Centaurians were experimented on by the Kree, resulting in the creation of a race of Inhumans.[12]

Alternate Realities[]

Earth 9812[]

In this timeline, their planet, known as Beta Centauri-IV, was under the control of the Terran Empire by the 26th century. The planet was known galaxy-wide for its shipments of kruna fruit and as the only source of the unique Yaka metal.

When twelve Centaurians planned to fight back against their masters, their rebellion was thwarted before it could begin by Jonz Rickard who froze the entire planet in time so that his troops, the Galactic Avenger Battalion Theta-4, could ravage 17% of the planet's surface and kill 34% of the population in a single attack.[13]

The Centaurians seemingly divide themselves regarding their settlements. Some of them, like Yondu's Zatoan tribe, lived in ancestral forests (before migrating to the less accessible plains to avoid contact with Earthmen)[14] (but Major Astro once claimed that Yondu belonged to a "mountain tribe").[15] The cave dwellers are known as Kikahee.[16]

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Some Centaurians demonstrate rudimentary psychic abilities.[17] Centaurians as a species are natural mystics. They posses intuitive mystical sixth sense perception that permits them limited empathic relationships with other life forms. The higher the lifeform, the more limited is their empathic potential. Centaurians possess an intuitive mystical rapport with nature, particularly with their home world. Centaurians can sense foreign bodies or substances or focus on specific elements within a specific area. Centaurians are also sensitive to mystical beings and forces and are able to detect their presence.[14]

Abilities

As a hunter gatherer based culture, the Centaurians are natural hunters who train in the use of a bow and arrow. They have the ability to whistle with a range of four octaves aids their archery.[14]

Cultural Traits

Centaurians worship elemental spirits. Their culture resembles that of Native Americans before the European migration.

Language[]

The native Centaurian language is a system of grunts, clicks, and whistles, but they are able to speak other languages such as "English", but it is painful for them to speak for too long without resting their throats.[14]

Religion[]

Yondu also saw the "spirit of Anthos" within Asgardian Thor, God of Thunder, intending to gave him the offering of his bow.[20]

Chandra spoke of her people's "gods" using the plural form that indicated she was referring to more than a single deity.[11] However, no other deities have ever been named.

Ecosystemic Relations[]

They have a natural connection to their living world and its ecosystem, which is particularly strong in their warrior-shamans. This connection can appear like psychic abilities to others species.[9]

The Way[]

In the same way, the Centaurians can "feel resonance" with their fellows. However, a Centaurian can lose this ability, known as the Way, and therefore not be felt.[21]
