Re（PLACE）02 | ‘house, garden, kitchen’

Concept RE: PLACE
Photographic series in which ordinary objects and tools are taken out of context.

The exhibition PLACE together with the predominant use of the 28mm pipe inspired me to work with everyday objects in a different narrative. I translated my interpretation of the exhibition into a photographic series, in which everyday objects, in and around the house, are the subject.

There is a Dutch saying when talking about ‘the ordinary’ called: huis-tuin-en-keuken, which literally translates to house-garden-and-kitchen in English. Therefore, huis-tuin-en-keuken objects became the main subject in this series.

Normally, I photograph deserted and colourful sceneries, far away from the flat, Dutch landscapes. The current situation forced me to stay home and to look closer. In my parent’s garden, I found colourful tools, objects and clothes hanging in my father’s closet. These objects were the starting point. I looked for locations that took each object out of context, to create a new narrative. The dunes are part of a sand excavation, only 7 kilometres away from home.

文脈から自由になった日常的なモノの連作写真

Rhoikos&Theodrosによる展示「（PLACE）」では、28mm径のパイプが特徴的に使われている。それに触発され、わたしは身近なモノを異なるナラティブに位置付け、今回作品をつくることを決めた。わたしは展示「（PLACE）」に対する解釈を、家の中や周辺にある日常的なモノをテーマとする連作写真へと翻訳した。
オランダでは平凡な、ありふれたもののことを「huis-tuin-en-keuken」という。文字通り訳すと「家、庭、台所」だ。したがって、こうした「huis-tuin-en-keuken」なモノが、今回のシリーズのテーマとなった。
普段わたしは人のいない、カラフルな風景を舞台に撮影している。オランダの単調な風景とはかけ離れたものだ。だがこの現在の状況によって、わたしは家の中で過ごすことを余儀なくされ、よりじっくりとものを見ることになった。わたしは両親の庭で、カラフルな道具や生活用品、父のクローゼットに吊るされた洋服を見つけた。これらのモノが今回の出発点だった。わたしは新たなナラティブを生み出そうと、一つ一つのモノをその文脈から取り出し、自由にすることのできる場所を探した。写真のなかの砂丘は、自宅からたった7キロ先にある土砂の採掘場である。

The garment as an object. Something you wear inside becomes one with the sky.

02. Rake, pipe and washing line
A rake, taken apart, attached to a pipe and a new object is born. Jens fabric is hanging on the washing line.

分解された熊手はパイプに繋がれ、新しいモノが生まれる。イェンスのファブリックが物干しロープに吊られている。

03. Ladder
The ladder shapes the shoulders and uses its ‘legs’ to become a spatial object. The white jacket blends in with the dunes in the background.

梯子によって肩がかたちづくられ、その「脚」は空間的なモノになるために使われる。白いジャケットが背景の砂丘に溶け込む。

04. Watering cans and garden hose
The garden hose connects the watering cans, who are floating in the water.

05. Heels and chair
The heels act as an extension of the chair. Together with the shadow it becomes a story of its own.
