CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter present the procedures adopted by the researchers to

explain in details the research design, source of data, population of the
study, instrumentation and validation, data gathering procedure and
statistical treatment of data applied in order to come up with this study.

RESEARCH DESIGN

For the 30 students who were chosen purposive sampling was the
sampling method employed. The outcome was evaluated to see if it was
effective for the students using the data that was gathered. According to
shucks, (2012) stated Correlational research gathers data from individuals on
two or more variables and then seeks to determine if the variables are
related (correlated). Correlation means the extent to which two variables
vary directly (positive correlation) or inversely (negative correlation). In the
realm of educational psychology, understanding the intricate dynamics
between students' goal orientations and their academic motivation is pivotal
for developing effective educational strategies.

This study seeks to explore the relationship between students' goal

orientations and their academic motivation using a correlational research
method. The correlational method is particularly suitable for this study as it
allows for the examination of the strength and direction of the association
between these two variables without manipulating the educational
environment. By employing this method, we aim to uncover patterns and
connections that can inform educators, policymakers, and researchers about
the motivational constructs that best support student achievement and well-
being.

SOURCE OF DATA

The primary source of data were the response of the respondents of

randomly selected students. Likewise, inputs from internet website and
handouts were considered as the secondary source of data.

POPULATION OF STUDY

The researchers asked 30 participants who were chosen at purposive by

the researchers were asked to react. The survey's respondents were invited
to complete the form and provide feedback. For the 30 students who were
chosen purposive sampling was the sampling method employed. The
outcome was evaluated to see if it was effective for the students using the
data that was gathered. Regarding the number of participants, there are
some arguments from experts, Dweck,(2012) explained that there should be
at least 30 participants in correlation method to establish relationship.
Dogan, (2012) also stated that the minimum acceptable for correlation study
is 30.

INSTRUMENTATION AND EVALUATION

The researchers use an adopted questionnaire regarding students goal

orientation and their academic motivation from Bett Morrissey MLIS (17 May
21) and it has 12 questions. The revised questionnaire was shown to the
advisor for feedback, and after revision and modification it was shown to the
adviser for final approval.

EVALUATION AND SCORING

ASSIGNED NUMERICAL CATEGORICAL VERBAL

POINT RANGES RESPONSE INTERPRETATION

4 3.25—4.0 Always Very high

3 2.50—3.24 Sometimes High

2 1.75—2.49 Rarely Moderate

1 1.00—1.74 Never Low

DATA GATHERING

The researchers prepared a letter requesting an approval the research

adviser and SHS principal coordinator. The researchers conduct an
orientation about the study to the respondents. After the brief orientation the
researchers administered the students goal orientation and their academic
motivation test to the students. The researchers gathered all the
questionnaire after thirty minutes. Lastly. the researchers consulted the
experts of the field and the statistician to check and analyze the statistical
data that determine the students goal orientation and their academic
motivation of the students.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

1. The data were analyze using the mean and general weighted

mean. x = [f./N, where x = the mean value of the set of given data, f =

frequency of the individual data, N = sum of frequencies.

2. Were analyzed in terms of frequency distribution and percentage by

dividing the frequency to the total number of the group and multiply by 100.

3. The data were analyzed using the Pearson "Y" formula determining
the significant relationship between the independent and dependent
variables. The formula stated as = (n (Exy)- (Ex) (y))/(√ In Ex²-(Ex)2][η Σγ
(Σγ)).
